Audi Matrix headlights banned in the U.S.
Audi Matrix headlights banned in the U.S.
I think we really need to update our DOT headlight regulations. It's a shame that we can't allow this obviously superior technology.
BTW, I found it interesting when the speaker claimed that studies have shown an increase in rear-end collisions for cars with LED taillights. I'll have to do a bit of research to see if he is correct. Seems counter-intuitive to me....

If these are better than HIDs or those godawful pink/blue bulbs, I'd like to see them here. I've been blinded too many times by poorly aimed/executed HIDs to endorse their use.

LED headlights already exist and are in use here in the U.S. Audi has been using them for a couple of years now. Hell, you can even get LED headlights in the new Nissan Rogue....so the technology is already trickling down to relatively inexpensive vehicles. But this is more than just a set of LED headlights. The idea here is that the headlights are always responding & adjusting to conditions/surroundings to provide maximum light output for any given condition while minimizing glare and/or blinding other drivers. Works for oncoming cars as well as the cars you are following. Cheesy commercial, but it does provide a clear idea of how it works:tankinbeans wrote:If these are better than HIDs or those godawful pink/blue bulbs, I'd like to see them here. One thing's for sure - LED headlights are here to stay. In fact, the new Corolla has them stanadard on all trims levels.

How do you "flash your highs" with the matrix lights?

I see that they also banned the LED sequential blinker. Why is Audi's banned but not the Mustang's?

The Audi system was designed to trigger seizuresbk7794 wrote:I see that they also banned the LED sequential blinker. Why is Audi's banned but not the Mustang's?

I see.
I feel like this system is going to take off in the future. Where the car detects people walking, deer etc.

They don't really design them with the intent to cause seizures. Still, you never know when flashing lights might set someone off. BBC News always gives a warning then the following video segment will feature photography flashes.bk7794 wrote:I see.

Speaking of "The Matrix" (We were, weren't we?)
Imagine the scene where Neo calls for the racks of weapons if the film had been made in the late 16th Century:
There is an armory in Graz, Austria where they still have racks of armor and weapons put away for when the Turks come to attack them again someday.

Those remind me of Knight Rider when they sweep back and forth.

So they had this local armory and they would ring the churchbells and all the fighting age men would report for duty and get suited up and defend the city. Then, they switched over to a National Army, but nobody told them what to do with the armor and weapons, so they kept them on the racks and there they stayed until they were hidden from the Germans in WWII. After the war, they put them back into the armory and there they are today. I really enjoyed finding the time to walk thru the building and see all that when I was on a business trip.Squint wrote:Those pictures are pretty neat, RP. History is awesome, yo.
Oh, and the people there, when they speak English, they sound JUST LIKE Arnold Schwartzenegger. Makes sense - he grew up in Graz. Probably had the same English teachers.
