No manual in 2015 Subaru Legacy
No manual in 2015 Subaru Legacy
I thought I could always depend on Subaru to always have a standard shift! Not that I'm in the market for a new one, but so very disappointing.
From the article:
"Speaking of things that fall into the “too bad” column: the manual transmission model joins so many others in the scrap pile. The five-speed automatic is also gone in the 3.6R. Yes, a CVT is standard across all models and that is that.
But it probably doesn’t matter because most people already buy the automatic Legacy and this time around it’s quite a bit more efficient. Subaru expects an average 30 mpg with the four-cylinder and 23 with the six, both of which are substantial improvements."

Oh well...another one bites the dust. Subaru has been going downhill with the Legacy for years now. It went from a really nice car to one that is just, well, ugly comes to mind.
I really liked this body style:
But now it looks like this:

I agree the first photo is the best Legacy style. I wonder if Subaru is planning to drop the manual in the Outback. Maybe the beginning of yet another good era to end.
Re: No manual in 2015 Subaru Legacy
I dunno...Subaru was one of those companies that you could always seem to count on if you wanted to shift for yourself. I guess we can't expect that to last forever.
Re: No manual in 2015 Subaru Legacy
The one thing I don't like about the standard shift in the pre 2010 Outbacks is at 65mph the engine is about 3200 rpm. The 4EAT (auto) is about 2600. Makes for a quieter ride on the highway, but from what I heard not really any significant mpg improvement. My Forester, which is based on the smaller Impreza is at 2750 rpm at 65mph, which is reasonable.
I wonder what's the best way to post a photo here? I clicked 'Img' and inserted a link to imgur.com in between [img]and[/img], but must have done something wrong.

Hmm my 2009 Outback doesn't hit 3000rpm until about 70mph.Stelcom66 wrote:The one thing I don't like about the standard shift in the pre 2010 Outbacks is at 65mph the engine is about 3200 rpm. And yes, I like the look of the pre-2010 Outbacks/Legacies better as well. It's a large part of the reason I chose the 2009.

What you did is close to perfect. You probably inserted the link to the imgur page that contains the image. You need the address of the image itself, no frame around it, no logos, nothing else, just an address ending in .jpg. Often you can right-click the image and either "copy image address" or go to Properties and find the address there.Stelcom66 wrote:I wonder what's the best way to post a photo here? Imgur is particularly nice because it saves you some steps by providing a complete [img] code for you to paste. Look to the right of the image and there will be a box full of stuff you can paste into various things. If it's not there, click the link just under the image at its bottom right for "embed codes". One of them says "BBCode (message boards & forums)"; that's the one you want. Then you don't even need to type [img] or click the button here.

Then that's good news. The gearing must have been changed. I read a few comments in Edmunds.com from Outback owners of 2007 & 2008 models with the manual wanting a 6th gear. The 2009 gearing sounds very similar to my Forester, where I'm also at 3000rpm at 70mph. The 2009 Outback is a great looking wagon.mapman85 wrote: Hmm my 2009 Outback doesn't hit 3000rpm until about 70mph.

maybe they're reserving it for the extra sporty and lower-end models like the wrx, sti, brz, and (for lower-end) impreza. i initially was a little shocked upon reading that the legacy wouldn't be manual anymore, but it shouldn't really surprise anyone.Shadow wrote:I dunno...Subaru was one of those companies that you could always seem to count on if you wanted to shift for yourself. Thanks for the tips. Going to try again - if this works it's a photo of one of my son's car: .....I see it in the preview, thanks again! I now see imgur.com provides the entire code. I was making the process more complicated than it needed to be.theholycow wrote: Imgur is particularly nice because it saves you some steps by providing a complete

I thought so too! I wonder if there's a way to reduce the size.potownrob wrote: nice car...pic a little too big though...

Imgur makes it easy. Under the embed codes there is a line that says
Sizes: Original · Small Square · Large Thumbnail · more
Choose "Large Thumbnail" for this size:
I suspect that you can just add 'l' at the end if you want to do it manually.
