Doomsday for manual transmission vehicles
Doomsday for manual transmission vehicles
Okay, the title may seem a bit dark, but this topic is intended to be fun.
Assume that all car companies got together and decided that 2014 would be the very last model year of the manual transmission. After 2014, buying a new manual transmission car would be impossible because they will no longer exist.
What would you do? Would you go out and buy a new 2014 vehicle with a manual? If so, which model?
Would you not be worried because you could just buy a used model in the future? If so, which model would you seek?
Would you do everything possible to keep your current stickshift car running forever?
Or would you not really care either way?

Keep Clifford and, assuming money isn't an issue, buy an SRT-10. The SRT-10 would be my choice because it doesn't carry quite the snobbish baggage as the Benzes and BMWs.

I would keep my car and buy a few older Jeeps, money permitting. I would make money on them later.

Re: Doomsday for manual transmission vehicles
I wouldn't be too worried as long as the manual transmissions themselves were still being produced and I was able to simply swap one in.

Re: Doomsday for manual transmission vehicles
Aside from my bike I've never bought a vehicle that was less than nine years old. Not time to worry about it yet, even in your hypothetical.

That's actually somewhat impressive. Out of curiousity, have you bought your vehicles from dealerships or individuals or what?IMBoring25 wrote:Aside from my bike I've never bought a vehicle that was less than nine years old. Not time to worry about it yet, even in your hypothetical.

These guys would expand into more genres of car:
http://www.bigfastcar.com
More generally speaking the aftermarket would take up the slack, but I'd still be driving older vehicles (and perhaps converting them myself) for a long time anyway -- unless I have a windfall, in which case I can buy a new vehicle and pay the aftermarket to do the job for me.

All the four-wheeled vehicles have been from individuals. Two family members and the guy who was at the time my brother's boss.Squint wrote:That's actually somewhat impressive. I would go out and order a CTS-V the second I hear of this news.

That's pretty much exactly what I expected you to say.six wrote:I would go out and order a CTS-V the second I hear of this news.

Re: Doomsday for manual transmission vehicles
I would do a JDM tubo engine and transmission swap into my car, then keep my car for as long as I possibly could.
Two pedals, two feet, too easy.

Re: Doomsday for manual transmission vehicles
I would go buy a Porsche with a manual, any of them I don't care. This is assuming I have the money of course. lol
I would not want to buy a used car, the price of a good used car with a manual will probably go through the roof. This will be very good for your resale value if you buy one of the last manual cars offered.
Kinda off-topic but not really. I picked a Porsche because I heard their manuals are some of the sweetest in the business. What car manufacturers in general are known to make the best manuals?
