The five car stable

Post by DKaz »

If you had a stable of five cars, which ones would they be?

I'll start.

The multi purpose vehicle - 2011 or 2012 Mazda 5, with a slightly more powerful 2.5L engine and 6 speed manual transmission, it'll be a great upgrade to my already great multi people vehicle. Sure it might get that ugly smiley face grille but consider that the Mazda 3 is currently the top selling vehicle in Canada.

The ridiculously fast and luxurious car - 2006 to 2009 Porsche Cayenne S, 400HP with 6 speed manual and a 0-60 in 5.7 seconds. Handles decent for an SUV too, although it won't handle anything more than a well maintained gravel road. The S is no longer comes with manual transmission, base model only, so I have to get a 2006 to 2009. If I didn't go for this Cayenne, the next choice would be a Pontiac G8 GXP .

Offroading and cargo hauling specialist - 2008+ Toyota Tacoma Double Cab Short Box, because the long box doesn't come with a manual transmission but it's still a good mid size truck.

The rally car - 1994 to 1999 Toyota Celica GT-Four WRC. Turbocharged 2.0 with an Anti-Lag system on a 4WD drivetrain, yum.

The around town car - 2011 Nissan Leaf... omg wtf is an electric slushie doing in your stable gtfo. Face it, gas is expensive, and short trips are hell on engines. This is the perfect vehicle for getting groceries, running errands, and stop and go traffic. This will make the other four cars in the stable last a whole lot longer, and at $2.25 for a charge that lasts up to 160km (100 miles), it's cheap. 100 miles for three quarters the price of a gallon of gasoline? Why not?

The hauler - Toyota Tundra with the huge V8 and all the towing package-ness I can get

The daily - Low mileage Mariner Blue NA Miata with a hardtop for winter

The track star - Stripped and fully naturally Aspirated built KL-ZE NA Miata with all the suspension, braking, and chassis goodies

The classic - Fully original and immaculate numbers matching air cooled 911

The expensive one - Brand new Porsche 911 Carrera 4S

This list would easily change since I go through fantasies of different cars every couple days

I don't have the stable, but I've got plenty of cars...

The DD: 2008 VW Rabbit. My only working stick shift, but not for long.
The hauler: 2002 GMC Sierra. Winter DD, hauling, and towing my camper.
The wife's DD: 2000 Isuzu Rodeo.
The pile of shit: 1994 Chevy S10. Parts donor for project. I guess this doesn't really count.
The classic: 1985 Monte Carlo converted SS. Wife's garage queen. Too broke to insure, it hasn't been driven in a few years. I think it's a cryin' shame, she should get rid of the Isuzu and DD it (with snow tires in the winter).
The win: 1980 Buick LeSabre. Currently project car...I hope to have it DD-ready by the fall and actually DD it starting in the spring.

If trailers count, I have a 24' camper and a 12' broken boat trailer.

^a trailer for hauling broken boats? I bet that gets a lot of use.
"Honey, can we take a cruise on the broken boat tonight?"
"Aw Sweetie, you know I always end up poling it across the shallows like some lost gondolier"
"But MooMoo, you know how horney I get for Italian men"
"Yes Dear. I'll go hitch up the broken boat trailer to the truck right after diner."
"Don't forget to bring your "Rubberatzis"!

i like corollas layout so ill go with that

The Hauler: Mazda B2600i with 383 stroker engine, 6 speed tranny and transfer case. and of course some serious frame strengthening to ensure it doesn't twist itself into a spiral

The Daily: mid 90's Civic sedan with a B18c swap

The Track Star: 05 STi with H6 swap + massive twin turbo setup

The Classic: 1970 Chevelle SS with nascar stock car engine swapped in (pretty much a bored out 454 with some serious engine balancing and retarded cams so it revs to 12k :) :) :) )

The Expensive One: early 90's CR-X with K24 block\K20 Type R head\cams frankenstein. all motor, high compression and VTEC that will put a hurt in your neck and a smile on your face. spoon suspension setup all around and serious weight reduction while still maintaining grip through drag radials on all 4 tires. doesn't sound expensive, but ridiculously time consuming and alot of money once everythings said and done.

CRX weight reduction? Are you planning to change it from "go-kart" to "matchbox car"? A CRX HF is already something like 1400 pounds, aren't they?

Every time I read this thread's title, I think it says "The five star cable" and I wonder what kind of cable could be that good.

The closest would be Monster Cable? Two star quality, five star price.

I think I'll go along with Cosmin's layout as well:
Hauler: Tough to say. I don't really have a lot of stuff. Maybe a Subaru wagon of some sort.
Daily Driver: My Si. Puts a smile on my face every damn day.
Track Car: Pfft. Do I need to say it?
Classic: Ford GT40 without a doubt.
Expensive ride: 911 GT3
2000 Honda Civic Si- Slightly faster than your grandmomma's grocery getter......slightly.

Nothing like that has ever been run in NASCAR....well,...nothing like that is anywhere near the rules, now or then. 7 liters was the one-time upper limit on engine displacement. Sure, Smokey Yunick figured out that they never took off the left-side cylinder head for a tech inspection, because the brake master cylinder, steering shaft and the clutch Z-Bar were on that side, so he ran overbored cylinders on that side and never got caught. still, getting it all the way up to or beyond 545 cid with just boring out one side of the block probably isn't possible. Never gonna rev to 12k either, even w/o the restrictor plate.

He should have made the stroke longer on that side too.

The Hauler: Viggen. Its a hatch
Daily: Viggen. Good mileage
Track car: Viggen tuned to around 400hp with suspension goodies
Classic: Classic 900 SPG. Pre-Viggen Viggen
Expensive car: Viggen. Money pit

Really though...
The Hauler: Ranger. Either mid 90s, or brand new. 4.0 please, and a stick of course
Daily: Viggen tuned to around 400hp. Either a '99, or a newer one so long as its three door and Monte Carlo Yellow. I may slip in an '04-'07 STi for my sensible four door family sedan.
Track car: These days Im a fan of RX-8s. Or a Viggen with even more power and perhaps a Subaru AWD swap (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UMBVzsEWvW4). Or an Exige.
Classic: Classic 900 SPG, Sonett III, or Chevelle
Expensive car: Viggen. Money pit. That, or perhaps something of the Maserati variety.

The Hauler: 1984 Volvo 245 DL. Cheap to run, cheap to insure, can tow decently and go offroad!
The Sporty/Race car: 1983 Volvo 242 GLT-Turbo.
The Balls Out Muscle car: 1977 Pontiac Trans-Am T Top
The European Styler: 1976 Jaguar XJS
The Bizarre: 1980-present Lada Riva-

And boom goes the dynamite.
Project Brick Shithouse: Phase I RIP, Scrapped 8/12/09

I've got your five star cable right here!
I'm going to pretend I have to pay insurance on them, to avoid ending up choosing fiev lamborghenas.

1. I haz eight chicks mobile: Roadmaster Wagon. Not a stick you complain? I have five cars, I think I'll live.
Image

2. I do donuts in your face mobile: El Camino 454 SS. I could've went with an older Camaro, an AMX, or a Cuda. Or a Nova. Every way I win.
Image

3. The Little Tosser: Datsun 510. Wagon or coupe, either way I win.
Image

4. Halp me move this couch mobile: F150 Lightning. I like the shortbed SRT-10, too, and that Toyota TRD pickup that goes like all hell, too. But the Lightning and I have more history.
Image

5. I need to pretend that I'm classy tonight ride: This was pretty difficult, as I don't really care much for luxury comforts. I almost went Porsche Panamera, cuz it's still a Porsche at least. Aston Martin and Maseratis can tickle my nuts. But I dialed it back a bit and went M45. Not too pricey, comfy, nice interior, kinda rare.

Geez, image size fail. Too lazy to fix.

why not rev to 12 grand...my buddy has a z28 camaro and dropped a 383 in it and it revs to 8. i figured they could get it to at least 12 lol. and they're like 358's or something. i think im just too used to loving 454's

All purpose commuter: VW Jetta Sportwagen TDI, fuel mileage and a wagon body. Absolutely positively has to be a 6 speed stick. Honda Fit is a close 2nd and would have been 1st if I'm living in San Francisco

Fun Car: Miatabusa. I would love to hear and rev the 13,000 rpm engine without wrapping my legs around one
http://www.miatabusa.com/
I would have picked the Toyobaru FT86 but they can't get it together.

The Ultimate Hauler: Freightline. It's not a truck if it doesn't have air brakes and a Eaton Super 10

RV: Class C on a Toyota chassis

Watercraft: Farrier F33
