You can't get the Mitsubishi Lancer with a stick? Not sure why my eye pulled to that car lol

Last time I checked you can't get the Focus hatch with a stick. Unless it was an ST/RS. Only the sedan has the 5 speed offering. I think you can still get the 1.0l with the 6 speed as well.

yeah, you can get the base 2 litre ES lancer with the stick, and i've seen several listed in dealer inventories. i wish you could get the AWD 2.4 litre models with the stick, or at least not a CVT.

Wait, you can get the SMART car with a stick?

Also, I've been looking at the Subaru Impreza lately. Trying to get back to basics.

eye fought the smart cars were dual clutch only stateside, but not sure. rope might know... as for imprezas, the new ones look promising. if you're talking about older ones, knowing a little about you, i can picture you being disappointed with most if not all of the past generation imprezas, and NONE of them (not even the new ones) has seats with adjustable lumbar support. i owned an 02 impreza 2.5 ts wagon, and certain members know my thoughts on that car; it drove like a tractor, wasn't very comfortable, poor ergonomics, cheap interior, not easy to shift, loud, etc. the next generation (~08-11) was said to be improved comfort wise and in other ways to appeal to the masses more. even the WRX was softened up for the first few years of that generation. the next generation (12-16) got the weaker yet supposedly more fuel efficient 2 litre n/a engine and was supposedly bigger. i liked the looks better, inside and out, but when i drove a base '15 impreza manual sedan (they didn't have any sport premium wagons in manual on the lot, which is what i would've wanted), i found it uninspired to drive and uncomfortable. the engine was lacking, the gearing seemed to be designed for a bigger engine, the cabin was way too tight for me (5'11" ~400 lbs.), the seats unsupportive, the clutch and shifter not particularly smooth (may have just needed a "tune up"??), the switchgear and other interior pieces were cheaper feeling and looking than i expected from looking at pictures and cars in lots etc., and the overall character and feel of the car did not match the looks at all. i haven't driven the new impreza, but from the looks of it, only the sport or limited (CVT alert GASP!!) look like they might be decent inside; the others all look cheap inside (and out). the 2 litre now has direct injection, and the sport manual has better gearing, but not sure how this will translate into fun driving - may be all in the chassis. can't imagine foing from a volvo s60 to an impreza though. i personally would aim for a used forester over a new(er) impreza, despite it technically being in a totally different class of vehicle. i found the 2015 forester premium manual i drove to be leaps and bounds better than the 15 impreza i drove. way more room, way more comfort, significantly more powerful feeling, definitely quicker feeling, way more refined. way more fun.

I've ridden in the Forester. I Feel like the seats are really shallow.

I'll be honest, I was tempted by the Outback with the automatic. Or even the Legacy.

They all have their shortcomings and trade-offs. I’ve heard people complain about the Legacy/Outback seats too, for the lower back support or something like that. Impreza seats are like less supportive and overly simplified versions of Legacy seats. The new ones may be better but not sure how much. Like many compact (subcompact??) cars, they don’t even have an adjustable lumbar support. I’d be willing to drive one to see if it exceeds my low expectations. I also found forester seats to be more comfortable than Outback seats, but Ive only been in the passenger seat of the Outback (dad has a 2015). The forester also feels more engaging to drive.

I think that's relatively new. I remember reading that they were going to put an actual manual transmission in those little toy cars. :D
