Here's what's really killing the manual transmission
A few days old, but a good one: http://www.standardshift.com/endnighmanual.png 'The sky's been falling for 50 years now, it seems. In September 1965, Playboy published an article by automotive-journalism legend Ken Purdy. It opened with a two-page shot of a Corvette shifter covered in cobwebs and th...

Why doesn’t Subaru offer an automatic in the 2015 WRX STI?
Interesting media article on a car that only comes with a manual, and why: "In an interview recently with Motoring.com.au, Subaru’s WRX project general manager, Masuo Takatsu said the brand’s performance fans “simply aren’t interested” in an automatic in the higher output STI." Of course, ...

Revised Volkswagen Polo GTI to get manual gearbox option
The Polo isn't offered in the US market, but it looks like a manual was missing in the GTI version over the past five years. Looks like it will make a return: http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/revised-volkswagen-polo-gti-get-manual-gearbox-option "Keen drivers rejoice: revamped hot sup...

Revised M3/M4 Manual Transmission
http://www.bmwblog.com/2014/01/27/cool-photos-bmw-m4/ "Manual transmission is based on the BMW 1M and it’s 12 kg lighter than the gearbox found in previous E90 / E92 M3. It uses a twin blade clutch and upgraded oil system. If one orders the manual transmission instead of dual clutch gearbox, i...

Nice article that covers the changes for the C7 Corvette transmissions, including the active rev match, twin-disc clutch, dual-mass flywheel, and seventh gear for the manual transmission.

Re: Will drive-by-wire (and rev hang) kill the manuals?
What will ultimately kill them outside of the low-production/kit car realm will be safety standards. I feel fairly comfortable that over the next twenty years, a mandated emergency stop function from say 30mph will be put in place. Doubt many manufacturers will want to add-in an electronic clutch re...

Should You Buy a Car With a Manual Transmission?
"Is the manual transmission dead? Die-hard auto enthusiasts may shout out: “No way” but is anyone listening? If you’re in the market for a new car, a manual transmission might be a good idea, for a few key reasons." A fairly standard  case for manuals nowadays, but it is good to see ...

How do you shop for cars with manuals online?
Greetings Standardshifters!
When looking for a new or used car with a standard, how do you look for them online?
I know a few places (http://autos.aol.com/used-list/trans-Manual/ for example) offer a filter for cars with manuals, but not all do.
Do you guys have a set group of places you search?

Porsche admits manual gearbox could die
Popularity of Porsche’s PDK auto transmission puts the clutch pedal on notice. "“As far as I know the take-up rates of the PDK in the 911 is up to 80 percent and in the Boxster and Cayman it is around 60-70 percent. And it is increasing. Maybe someday the question will come whether we need a ma...
