Re: I think my clutch engagement has gotten lower

If cable, must have stretched. If hydraulic, I suspect a leak. Put in neutral (engine on or off should not matter) and hold pedal steady pressure partway down so clutch is releasing and putting pressure on hydraulics. If pedal drops, indicates a leak (or that you don't have good feel for steady pres...

Re: Do you use a locking gas cap?

Regarding the original topic, a locking gas cap is a solution to a problem I don't have. I don't think I even know anybody who has been victim to any such offense. I suppose you are right. Deliquents these days are too busy hacking peoples computers and downloading music to even think of spoiling s...

Re: Do you use a locking gas cap?

But even into the 1970s there were many exterior hood latches. Wow, might as well just put up a sign that says "Steal my engine!" :? Imagine if Integras and Civic Si's had exterior hood latches. :!: Anyway, back on topic, my car has an interior release for the filler door. You could alway...

Of course ye jest. Everybody knows the Model T did not have an interior hood latch. In fact, the Model T didn't even have an interior!

Do you use a locking gas cap?

I always get a locking gas cap, except for the one car that had an interior latch for the filler door. The reason I get a locking cap is not to prevent theft so much (they often drill a hole in the bottom of the tank anyway--easier than syphoning) but as a deterent from the random act of vandalism, ...

Re: NJ cracking down on left lane idiots

How about the idiot who comes flying down the entrance ramp and does a diagonal across 4 lanes to immediately get in the left lane? Well, if he's going faster than all the other traffic, and he doesn't get in anyone's way or cut anyone off, then what's wrong with that? Even if he is ahead of traffi...

Re: 2-3 shift path

I follow the H pattern in my Subaru Forester. To me just seems normal, same with the Dodge Dakota. How about you click H pattern in the poll selections at the top so I am not alone up there? So in doing the H pattern the actual question pertained only to the 2-3 shift. I don't go straight in to 3 b...

Re: Post your oil changes here

Ford Ranger 2.3L DOHC 16-valve. Changed at 82,250 miles (now 84,000). Amsoil Signature Series 5w20 with Wix filter. Previously ran Redline 5w20 for a 10,000 mile interval followed by Redline for a 6000 mile interval. Bad oil analysis reports which could be a cleaning action from the ester in the Red...

Re: 2-3 shift path

So far I am the only one selecting H in the poll. I paid attention driving home and noticed that while I don't go straight in, it is just a curve not a hard cornered H. Even watching my videos posted in the thread on videos while driving, it seems to have a slight reverse S-type movement in my 2-3 s...

Re: 2-3 shift path

I tend to follow an H though it is pretty fluid, not like I have to make deliberate stops and turns of the shift lever. I have driven Fords with Mazda transmissions for the past 27 years and they are pretty H-ish. When I first tried to drive my son's 2001 S-10 it baffled me, as I could not find thir...

Re: Wait...another of "did I hurt my clutch" type of threads

Wow! I don't have an answer, but someone here will. Short of dropping the tranny and sanding down the clutch disk I am not sure what can be done. Hey, regarding the photo you posted, those streets are really insane. What does a person do who is confined to a wheel chair?

You can make some really loud noises that way (or with a stick jammed in just so) against a knobby mountain bike tire.

Re: Your worst moments

I once threw it in second instead of fourth going about 50. As soon as I started to let the clutch out I knew something was wrong. A mistake avoided by noticing the problem before it became a problem big time. I did the same before, started going into too low a gear at too high a speed and noticed ...

Re: Man lives in the old Packard plant in Detroit MI

It is a very big complex.

Somewhere is a corner of that facility that is doubling as a toilet I would guess.

Wonder if his dogs get rabies shots? At least with the dogs there should not be a rat problem in his living area.

Does he have heating in winter? Lot of questions, few answers.
