Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi
Guys, I have a question and didn't want to start a new thread just for this. Recently, I've noticed that my shifter has a squeaking sensation and noise. As far as I can tell, it only happens when moving the shifter left and right in neutral so the issue likely has to do with the centering spring or ...

Re: Bucking after upshift
You might need to clarify a little more for us. Does the car buck when you push the clutch pedal down, when you engage the clutch or after you've let the clutch pedal all the way out? If the bucking happens when you engage the clutch then your rpms were mismatched. If it happens during the other two...

That truck video was funny but majority of the blame is on the guy who was raging imo. Just switch lanes and go about your business but its unclear if the person filming was purposely brake checking or going under the speed limit. Either way, don't roll down your window flipping the bird when you do...

You said that your friend loved it, but the question is what did you tell her? Did you play it down or did you tell her the clutch is crap?

Re: Winter....potholes....and automatics. Ugh!
All I'm saying is there are countries out there using heated roads while we're out here filling potholes and spreading salt everywhere like barbarians. :P No ones is saying it won't be costly but come on we spend billions on crap that no one needs anyway. Why are we more worried about putting peopl...

Re: Winter....potholes....and automatics. Ugh!
Can't they just design the roads better instead of just mindlessly pouring more asphalt into the potholes over and over again? Cost is by far the biggest obstacle to better roads. Sure, someone could probably come up with a better design for road paving that would make it last longer/be stronger/be...

Re: Winter....potholes....and automatics. Ugh!
Don't even get me started on the potholes. I'm usually very careful in trying to avoid them but last week I hit one pretty hard, I couldn't even see the damn thing. Luckily, I don't think I bubbled a tire or bent a rim after a quick inspection. Can't they just design the roads better instead of just...

Re: Another Day, Another Idiot Driver (Misc Thread for Stori
We're scientists, so we tend to analyze and hypothesize about stuff. One person doing something is an idiot, but many people doing it (and in a particular area in this case) means it could be systematic, with a larger reason... physical, psychological, educational, environmental, etc. A herd of idi...

Re: jerk free shifts
One other thing, when going from 1st to 2nd gear, the longer you wind up in 1st, the harder it is to get a "smooth" shift into 2nd. Unless you're trying to accelerate quickly or starting on an incline, try dropping into 2nd earlier, as soon as you get the car adequately moving after launc...

Re: Rod vs. cable actuation
I think the main difference is that the rod linkages provide a more bolt action feel that some people like while the cable linkages isolate vibration better.

Re: Industry getting closer to phasing out manual transmissi
By "sporty", he means cars that are aimed at driving enthusiasts. In these cars, the driver is looking for a fun enjoyable car to drive. So is more likely to choose the manual over the more advanced/faster shifting dual clutch even if it means that the car is a little bit slower to 60. Hon...

Re: jerk free shifts
It seems like you know what to do to smooth out your shifts but you've let the people saying "NEVER SLIP YOUR CLUTCH" get into your head. Don't be afraid to give some gas while releasing the clutch both when shifting and launching. I myself have this problem and have to keep reminding myse...
