Re: Electronic Throttle Control

Plus, at least for me, sometimes my DBW will ignore my more precise and smaller throttle blips, or grossly underperform a bigger throttle blip, resulting in an epically failed downshift. I don't think you can ever compensate or adjust to that. Yeah, sometimes I notice this as well. I'll shove my fo...

Re: why this low?

Mk5 community is the same way. Every time someone posts a stock car they are told to lower it. Every time someone posts 1.5" lowered, they tell them to drop it more. That's why I don't really hang out on vwvortex, because they are mostly just sheep there. Same at golfmkv.com about the lowering...

Re: Odd Starting Problem

I atrribute mine to a loose fuel fitting, just enough to let pressure out overnight but not enough to actually leak. This is the most likely cause. Depending on your car, it may help to turn the key to "On" for a few seconds before turning it to "Start", as the fuel pump may run...

Re: Electronic Throttle Control

The default configuration works fine for me. It works fine for me too, but lots of configurations would work fine for me. Rev hang is annoying but I still get to my destination. I suspect it works fine for most people. Engineering is about compromise. It is also about demographics. Products are eng...

Re: Electronic Throttle Control

Configurable... yes. Not to the average person though. you can't go into a dealership and say "hey, I want to change ______ of how my car thinks" they'll just kinda look at you funny. and software does have limits. as for adaptability... cars should be fun or at least pleasant to drive. I...

Re: have you guys had those moments .... (stalling bloopers)

It cannot be calculated; it has to be organic. Well, you've confirmed what I thought before I had this car...but I just can't make it work in this car. Driving by estimating pedal travel has been 100% successful for me (the failures are when I forget to do so). I don't know what to say, it should b...

Re: have you guys had those moments .... (stalling bloopers)

I am convinced that the reason is that I pay attention to what the car is doing, not to the pedals. Could be, though I can't hear or feel the engine (smooth and well insulated), and my best success is when I don't try to feel the car, and instead just treat it mathematically -- let clutch out what ...

Re: Any other "semi-clutchless" rev matchers out there?

Rather, it was to answer the opposite fear that many people seem to have, that by coasting in gear they were using more gas , since the engine was turning over faster. FWIW, this is also true sometimes. In my 2008 VW, if I'm going less than 35mph when I begin "coasting in gear", it doesn'...

Re: Electronic Throttle Control

If it is DBW I've heard tons of issues with rev hang... I have DBW and rev hang SUCKS! I could even get used to it if it was predictable, but it's totally inconsistent. There's no discernable pattern to tell me when it will hang and when it won't, except that it never hangs when the engine is cold....

Re: have you guys had those moments .... (stalling bloopers)

Another vote for nothing in the back pocket. Wallet goes in my front pocket. I hate sitting on that thing. I stall occasionally after waiting at a red light. Then I get flustered and feel hurried, so I stall again. Generally I'll stall a third time before I get really angry and rev it up to 2000 (or...

Re: Waiting on a stoplight

Very interesting. In the US, the hand brake is like the bastard child of the pedal/lever/knob family in the car: no one ever uses it. One thing I cringe at is when auto drivers park this massive SUV on a hill, set Park, and just let the entire weight rest on the Park pin. Then when we get back in a...

Re: Any other "semi-clutchless" rev matchers out there?

I've been reading StandardShift.com occasionally since February, never really had anything to contribute until today...so I finally registered. On DFCO : I've studied it intensively on my vehicles, a 2008 VW Rabbit (5 speed manual) and a 2002 GMC Sierra (auto). I've chosen strategies to try for whol...
