Re: Octane Ratings, when did they drop

I should have around 310hp and 380 lb-ft from my little 2.3 that first debuted back in 1998. That makes your truck sound wimpy  My commute is nearly all stop and go for 18 miles each way. Id love to see what a reasonable drive cycle would mean for my fuel economy. Ive never really gotten a goo...

Re: Octane Ratings, when did they drop

Yeah. I run 87 during the colder months here in TX but 93 during the blistering heat. "Colder" I wish I could do that. I'm a 93 year round kind of guy. I don't even think about it any more honestly. Its honestly better not to when Im getting 20mpg out of a four cylinder station wagon. You...

Re: Octane Ratings, when did they drop

In particular, when did regular pump gas drop to 87 octane? My and ClutchDisk's '92 Mustang 5.0 LX is rated at 9:1 compression. My gearhead friend at work says 87 octane is fine. The guy who sold it to us said he always runs premium. He did not say there were any engine mods so I am thinking it is ...

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi

I guess it's time for me to come back and have my honorary lifer post. It's long overdue but I wanted to really get everything covered all at once in all areas. Let's start with the good: The GTI is still going strong and now out of warranty so a bit of holding breathe but has been okay so far. I'm...

Re: Watkins' other Saab

Viggen hasn't gone anywhere (yet?). Next year will be ten years of ownership, so I want to keep it. Its way up there in mileage at 213k, and has a few problems that I don't feel like fixing, and really cant with my current job. The wife wants a Wrangler, so Ive been thinking of selling it to help f...

Re: Watkins' other Saab

Perfect example of what I'm talking about. Looks like shit and "comes with trail lights to be installed". $300 for that??? GTFO.

Re: Watkins' other Saab

we don't need to be a four car household for just two of us. Eh? Why not? My yard looks like a used car dealer. Wife's DD, my DD, wife's second car, my second car, pickup truck, yard plow truck (rotting remains of old pickup truck), project vehicle that I'll soon sell, travel trailer, buncha ...

Re: Watkins' other Saab

Dig the kayaks on the roof. I'd have a canoe now if I had a place to store it. Alas, I do not.

Re: Manuals you'll miss in 2019...

I don't think I'll miss any, for here's my logic: Pedestrian cars that might lose their manual won't be missed much because the manual was already limited to lower-end trims already, so it doesn't matter much because I might not be interested in the lower trim of a given car. High-end performance ca...

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi

Every time I nearly finish a project, something gets in the way. My new bumper is just a clear coat or two away from done, but Im spending my day off minimizing and packing camping supplies for a weekend in the woods It takes you a day to gather what you need for a weekend? It's the minimizing that...

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi

Lets see..... One car, two adults, and two dogs, so I had to fit a lot in without the benefit of folding down the whole rear seat. -Get both kayaks on the roof and secured, including making new coated steel cable bow lines. -Minimize from the four rubbermaid bins we keep everything loose in down to...

Re: Roll Call. Who's still here?

Im not on constantly, but I do check in every few days. Ive transitioned from being primarily a laptop user to a phone user for my intergoogling. I find forum formatting frustrating on a phone screen, so I just dont log in much. Yeah, the only active foruming I do is via Tapatalk, and this forum is...
