Re: Toyota dumps Scion

My first memory of Scion was back in 2005 inside a Circuit City which has gone the way of the wind as well. They had two cars parked inside the store (the first gen TC and xB) and I remember thinking to myself that these cars didn't even look like real life cars that you could drive on the street bu...

Re: Refining Technique & Scenario Based Q's

I wouldn't expect a noticeable or even measurable change. I figured this but wasn't too sure if the feeling would change. I haven't noticed anything with break-in other than smell vs. no smell, but I haven't exactly been through a lot of clutches or had controlled conditions in which to tell. Yeah,...

Re: Refining Technique & Scenario Based Q's

Welcome back Tankin! I'm back. I just got done rereading all the words and see that Teamwork wants to "fight" about me over some ST things. I'm not a fighter, but I'd be happy to discuss anything about Mrs. Frizzle that I can easily articulate and your Mr. Woods. Fight was too strong of a ...

Re: Refining Technique & Scenario Based Q's

I know that ultra-light clutch. Still, holding your leg extended like that can get a little tiring. But yeah, listen for mild fatigue not screaming lactic acid. Now I just want to pick your brain- what constitutes reason why a clutch would feel heavy or light? Does it have to do with the tension in...

Re: Refining Technique & Scenario Based Q's

Thanks again Cow. I've gotten great reassurance from you and other professionals in terms of my model directly also. I don't think my leg ever really gets fatigued working this clutch and a professional editorial compared the clutch in this car with the statement - "I've felt more pressure from...

Re: Refining Technique & Scenario Based Q's

Haha, I didn't know how to phrase it but "fake out" came to mind. The problem is in NY is there's no patience combined with a collective acceptance of slam gas/slam brakes when needed. I've never personally was like this when driving an automatic I always tried to time out coasting to prev...

Re: Refining Technique & Scenario Based Q's

Thanks Cow, I think I got a firmer understanding, more time under my belt, and great answers from this thread. A lot of the questions presented in the pages were essentially me refining my techniques and not really deciding if I could drive or make it somewhere. I'm sure I'll have more questions in ...

Re: Refining Technique & Scenario Based Q's

Thanks again Cow for all of the information and replies. Ok, that's an entirely different issue than stalling. I didn't realize you were talking about using the engine to drive the car. A discussion of stalling in gear is about how low you can go during braking before you have to step on the clutch ...

Re: Burning the clutch when upshifting

I would say that I am the opposite (that I rev match my gears most of the time) but I posed a question about down shifting without rev-matching in the below thread "Refining techniques...". I was essentially asking if it's negligible in the sense that when I'm yielding to traffic conditio...

Re: Burning the clutch when upshifting

Anyway i do downshift without revmatching most of the time, but so that the engine has to spin up to 2000rpm in the next lower gear no more than that. So the clutch takes the engine from idle to 2000rpm, i feel guilty about that, is that still negligible ? Than why do so many people care about rev-...

Re: Refining Technique & Scenario Based Q's

Looking at the stalling issue turned inside-out to put some numbers on it, I can bump start in high gear in most cars at 10-15mph. The same cars should stay awake if I forget to take it out of high gear (or at least declutch) as low as that speed. Lower gears will allow survival at even lower speed...

Re: Refining Technique & Scenario Based Q's

When the transmission is in gear and the clutch pedal is fully out, provided the car is in good repair, the drive wheels are mechanically linked with the engine. Stalling happens in gear with the clutch pedal released if the drive wheels are moving far too slowly for the given gear. If you lock up ...

Re: Refining Technique & Scenario Based Q's

Regular launching in snow: Same as always just more gentle and slow. You might need to slip the clutch more but not lower your engine speed. It is, if anything, an advantage that you have that added control over traction (once you've got a good clutch foot). If you have stalled with no traction the...

Re: Refining Technique & Scenario Based Q's

Now that we've accumulated over 2 feet of snow on the island with mediocre plowing services I had a two questions in regards to operating in the snow: When it comes to launching when sitting in a few inches of slush/snow/ice I'm guessing the best route of action is holding the clutch in the bite unt...

Re: Refining Technique & Scenario Based Q's

Okay. My dad just got a 2015 Dodge Challenger Hellcat, and of course its manual transmission. My dad also has a body shop with lots of junk cars, (just trying to give some insight on my situation). Knowing that the car is stick shift I decided to find a junk car that is also stick to learn. It took...
