Re: Mechanical Watch Thread

Have not had a mechanical watch that you had to wind everyday in years, but this thread brings back memories of that. Not a watch, but I still use my wind up Baby Ben alarm clock. This particular Baby Ben was made by Westclox. If you look at the bottom of it, it will say made in the USA. They ended ...

Re: Clutch wear

I also recommend putting your car in neutral at stop lights or when stopped for an extended period of time. That will reduce the wear on the clutch. Not a ton of miles, but my Element is at 104,000 with the original clutch.

Re: Infant Gratification?

The salesman being commission driven want you to buy whatever they have on the lot so they can get their money now and not give you a chance to cancel their order. You want a manual and you will probably have to order one that is only available on the most stripped down model with the smallest motor.

Stick Shift Toyota Land Cruiser

Had never heard of this place until yesterday, but there is a company called Japanese Classics that imports vehicles from Japan that were previously not allowed to be imported. They reason they can now legally import them is that the vehicles must be 25 years old or older. I looked through their inv...

Stick Shift Camper

I usually don't post this type of thing, but saw a Honda Element with the E-Camper conversion for sale over at the Element forum. Most campers are automatics, but this one has the 5-speed stick. Classified ad and presentation were nicely done. Price might seem high, but they are popular, so they wil...

Re: What are your thoughts on electric cars?

Here is a link to question on Tesla forums

https://forums.teslamotors.com/forum/fo ... on-offered

They probably could come up with a manual trans on a mass market electric car, but demand from the automatic driving public would just not be there.

Re: Stick 1978 Chrysler LeBaron on eBay

My parents had a 1976 Dodge Aspen with an automatic and the 225 Six. The Two front fenders had to be replaces (under warranty) because they rusted right away. That car always seemed to have a hesitation. Might have been from the 70's pollution control devices. Probably the worst car they ever owned....

Re: Stick 1978 Chrysler LeBaron on eBay

That has to be about as rare as one of the Grand Cherokees with a 3rd pedal. It might be rare, but did anyone notice the buy it now price of almost $35,000.

Re: Teens learn to drive stick on classic cars

Now if we could just get more teens to take this course. Nice to see one of them driving the 3 speed on the column in the old 1950 Ford.

Re: Do you have a car that you can shift while resting your arm on your armrest?

My Element has one of those funky dash mounted shifters, so cannot rest arm on anything. Used to rest my hand on the shifter of my old 5 speed Escort wagon when changing the radio stations.

Re: What're your thoughts on an XJ Jeep?

Jeep should have kept the boxy Cherokee. Think they called it the Cherokee Classic at the end. Don't know if it came in a manual, but the discontinued Jeep Commander looked pretty good and you could get it with a V8. They should have not dumped the manual in the Grand Cherokee after 97 or 98. Not su...

SUV'S With A Manual

Not many SUV's left with a manual. My 2007 Element would be hard to replace with a AWD and manual combo. Autoblog has posted a list of SUV's with a manual. Link below

Anyone Remeber The Mazda GLC

Saw and ad for a new Mercedes out called the GLC. Reminds me of the old Mazda Great Little Car (GLC). Seems like cars that expensive could come up with and original name.

Re: Manual Returns to 911 GT3

Would be nice if other manufacturers will also see the error of their ways and bring the 3rd pedal back. The computer controlled trans might be faster at the track, but not nearly as much fun to drive. There has to be someone out there with enough quick shifting talent to beat the computer controlle...
