If You Want To Learn To Drive Stick, Just Learn How To Ride A Motorcycle

"But if you’re new to the joys of clutch/throttle coordination, the classes will not only induct you into the happy lot who reside within the Venn diagram of motorcycle and car enthusiasts, but it will also get you two-thirds of the way to learning how to drive stick in a car. " https://ja...

Long time, no post...

Greetings Standardshifters! One year in to these strange times, and way overdue for an update. Went ahead and updated to the latest forum software, and fixed a DB bug in the process from the last update a couple of years ago; who says procrastination doesn't pay off? 8) I am actively seeking a custo...

Electric cars outsold the manual transmission for the first time in 2019

https://autos.yahoo.com/electric-cars-outsold-manual-transmission-143000648.html The manual transmission's long, harrowing demise continued in 2019. For the first time, the number of electric cars sold new in America was higher than the number of vehicles delivered with three pedals and a clutch di...

No more manuals left in Audi's U.S. lineup

"The manual transmission has been dying a slow death, gradually replaced by automatic and dual-clutch gearboxes. And the latest blow comes from Audi."

Well, there goes Audi. What will 2020 bring?

Looks like Audi is dropping all manuals in 2019 for the US market.

Driving a stick isn't dead

Like waltzing, doing it well brings a feeling of grace and accomplishment that few feats match. Also like waltzing, fluency requires regular practice. Classic car insurance company teaches HS students how to drive manual...with classic cars. What a way to learn! https://www.freep.com/story/money/ca...

Manuals you'll miss in 2019...

Started getting a list together of 2019 cars and trucks that come with a manuals. I'm sad to see the Subaru Forester lose the manual. While not the best, it was rather unique and the last of the compact CUVs that offered a manual. Somewhat surprised it lasted through 2018. The closest you'll be able...

SSL and some anti-spam tweaks

May have noticed, but we are sporting https now on the forum, as well as some tweaks to registration so we can start getting some new blood in here, and not just spammers. Will be continued downtime here and there as we tweak settings/make updates.

BMW M Committed to Manual Transmissions—for Now

"Now, being an engineer, I would say from a rational standpoint that even though the manual gearbox is lighter than an automated gearbox, it uses more fuel and is slower, so it doesn’t really make sense . . . But from the emotional standpoint, a lot of customers say, ‘I don’t care, I want to ha...

Time for an Update

Been quiet for some time. Having kids does that to your free time. Quarter One 2018 will bring forum software updates along with a revised theme and some new blood to the forums. Also will be clearing out some of the outdated additional pages on the site. More details forthcoming as we nai...

Teens learn to drive stick on classic cars

Great video and story on Hagerty Insurance's Driving Experience. Teens get to drive classic cars with manuals. "Maybe they’re a little bit jerky trying to learn how to drive a car with a standard transmission. By the end of the classroom, they are pros" http://www.11alive.com/news/local/te...
