Re: Top gear acceleration
as much as i hate ford and mustangs especially...i can't even hate on the new mustangs. extremely high MPG out of a V6 and still 300 horse? i applaud you ford Wow...it's even got the Camaro V6 beat by 2 MPG...though the Camaro comes with 312HP to Mustang's 305HP (if Google is correct). Yeah, the ne...

What influenced your interest in manual transmissions?
I'm not sure if this topic has been posted before (haven't seen anything like it so far), so I figured I would just ask: What influenced your earliest interest in manual transmissions? For me, it started when I was just a small kid, about 9 years old. My dad had an old V8 Chevy pick-up with a 4-spee...

Re: Nice review of the Audi A5 (most likely my next car)
Sorry, I was a bit off in my numbers. The Audi Quattro system torque split is 60% rear and 40% front in normal operation. The nice thing about it is that it's not a typical "on-demand" AWD system that is typical on a lot of AWD vehicles. Here's a great video on Audi's Quattro system: http:...

Re: Nice review of the Audi A5 (most likely my next car)
well if its AWD then its quattro so what happens is normally its FWD, but once the ECU realizes the front wheels lost traction, it kicks the rear in and makes it AWD. it scared the crap out of me when my buddy picked up an Audi A4 2.0t to test drive. it was raining like a bastard out and he let me ...

Re: Nice review of the Audi A5 (most likely my next car)
BTW, that was true for the 2010 model year. Now with the 2011 models, you can't even get the V6 anymore. The only engine available is the 2.0T.cimbali wrote:... Sad that you can no longer get a stick with the V6....

Re: Nice review of the Audi A5 (most likely my next car)
the A5 is beautiful! Sad that you can no longer get a stick with the V6. What's different with launching an AWD? Does the AWD system kickin and prevent wheel spin? Yeah, it looks like the driver let the clutch out a little too quickly and the car bucked because of the AWD traction. If he was trying...

Nice review of the Audi A5 (most likely my next car)
Car looks fantastic, although I'm not a big fan of white.
I did get a chuckle out of the attempted launch at approximately the 0:50 second mark. The driver must not be used to AWD vehicles.

Re: Advice needed - new manual driver with abrupt/grabby clu
Anyone ever drive a G37 coupe? It has a terrible clutch...very narrow engagment travel and it doesn't even start grabbing until the pedal is almost all the way up off the floor. A good friend of mine has one and he complains about it all the time. The guys on the G37 forums have all kinds of mods t...

Re: 2011 Cars and Trucks with Manual Transmission
I think that's the main reason, but I suspect that also they don't want to have to fund the engineering of the manual to handle the power of the larger engine. Rope-Pusher, your opinion on that? well because manual transmissions are (or were) cheaper and easier to manufacture alot of base model veh...

Re: Top gear acceleration
You'd think that powerful cars would be able to pass without downshifting, but that's really not always true. I'd had a V8 Mustang back in the 90's with a 5-speed manual. If I was on the highway in 5th gear and floored the gas pedal at 60 MPH, the car would barely accelerate at all. It almost felt ...

Re: Top gear acceleration
Saabs have great highway passing abilities in top gear. Thats what theyre built to do. Take the 9000 Aero, for example. It had better 50 to 75mph acceleration than a Carrera 4 or Testarossa. Last I checked, thats a useful power band. My car (same engine and turbo, one generation later) turns 3k rpm...

Re: Top gear acceleration
My GTO cruises at nearly 2k revs at 80 mph, yet I can still pass in 6th gear on the highway at regular highway speeds. Have you ever seen published 50-70 MPH times (in top gear) in a magazine? I'd be interested to know the numbers. Unfortunately, not many people pay attention to those fig...

Re: 2011 Cars and Trucks with Manual Transmission
That might be true, but keep in mind that manual transmissions used to be available (and sometimes as standard equipment) on the models with the "bigger" engines. You still see that today on some vehicles (like the Mustang GT for example) That's targeting a very specific market (enthusias...

Re: Top gear acceleration
if a turbo'd motor is tuned correctly it should be producing full boost at around 2k. but i guess that also depends on how much boost your pushing and how efficient the piping is...etc. i guess the proper way to say it is a well built turbo'd motor should be producing full boost at around 2k That's...
