Re: Where can you work on your car?

I saw a place today with equipped bays to rent by the hour.

It's not cheap though. $15 for a half hour or $20/hour.

Re: Honest Engines

Made me think that we ought to draw straws at work and loser (Winner?) has to drive through the flock without slowing or swerving to avoid hitting them. After a while, they will all move to the backcountry to get away from the crazy city drivers. The large 50mph main road near my house has a sectio...

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi

It is partly a crud buildup issue and partly an issue of newer heavier software updates weighing down old hardware, like with a PC. Wiping the phone will improve it. I haven't yet seen a crapware cleaner app that's up to the task.

Re: Everything you NEVER Wanted to Know About Stop/Start

Stop/Start has been on modern production vehicles for probably a decade and a half, though it's becoming more common now obviously. For 2004-2007 , GM had an interesting hybrid half ton pickup. It was not the relatively common design that they offered from 2009 on. It was basically just a Stop/Start...

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi

My original public opinion here for SUV's that didn't have AWD was "uninformed buys" In the past a 2WD SUV was pretty pointless and usually just for vanity (with some exceptions for heavy towing with truck-based SUVs). These days the SUV/crossover is most of what's available on the market...

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi

i assume she's considering an SUV/CUV with having a family in mind, or maybe otherwise carrying lots of awkward stuff (skool supplies??) around?? she might very well be better off looking at minivans with their bigger space and passenger carrying capabilities. the small SUVs/CUVs may be cheaper tha...

Re: Warranty Wars

In this case, the thing is Mitsubishi has no cumpunction to come up with a permanent fix for any of the issues that crop up - if the exhaust manifolds are cracking, they will crack every model year until that engine goes out of production. Kinda like every Cavalier you ever saw had a muffler that w...

Re: Warranty Wars

he runs, not walks, the the junkyard to look for a replacement part, because many Mitsubish engines, from multiple model years, will exhibit the same failure mode and the junkyards will get picked clean of cylinder heads, exhaust manifolds, camshafts, whatever it is that needs to be replaced. Altho...

If your CD has hard to replace music you might want to convert it and store the original safely...then if you still prefer the CD medium, burn a copy to play.

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi

For those purposes it's not like there aren't options, though probably nothing as simple and neat as the old fashioned portable jukebox device. An inactivated smartphone (or even dumbphone for that matter) with a big microSD card is an effective device. Make sure it's sdxc compatible and slap in a 5...

Re: Warranty Wars

He's not wrong. It's exceedingly rare for those bits to wear out or fail like that. Most cars go to the junkyard with that stuff still good for another zillion miles. That's why I sometimes rant against the machine in "gotta do 3,000 mile oil changes with 300 dollar oil and filter" discuss...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z1MehhS4GIw DUDE! OEM electric cutouts, basically? How do they achieve 4 levels of adjustment? Dual mufflers, with options routing to both, one, or none, plus a route that bypasses a resonator? Or maybe something with exhaust valve timing is part of it? Maybe the muff...

Re: Random Videos

I remember being mad jelly over the Manta's fuel injection - carbureted vehicles had a lot of driveability issues back then what with emissions and fuel economy tuning. A fellow student in my combustions class said that, even in the dead of winter, all she had to do was twist the ignition key to st...
