Re: Brand new manual driver...a little depressed

I guarantee many here on this site feel your pain but it WILL get better. 5 years ago I bought my first manual car and basically learned to drive stick on it. I can't tell you the adventure I went through just trying to get car home from place I bought it. HA HAHAHA. Flash forward 5 years and I can ...

Very rarely stall anymore. No problems upshifting. Launches typically flawless now. Downshift rev matches still need a lot work but much improved from 2 years ago. Overall I give myself about a 7 out of 10.

I test drove one last year (manual of course) It was OK. I kind of like it's exterior styling but man, does Chrysler have some pitiful interiors. Really cheap, plastic looking in my opinion.

That said, it is definitely better to be in gear going round the corner. It lets you pull away smoothly and you don't have to fight with the shifter while you are trying to merge. I was taught the "neutral in turns" thing but ditched it after learning the finer points of driving a stick. ...

I went yesterday. The highlight for me were the BMWs, especially the 335i - what a beautiful car. There are a lot more exotic cars out there but you can't BMW in terms of performance, style and praticality.

If your thinking about taking some lessons again, maybe you should check this place out http://www.shifters.ca

I haven't gone there myself but I was considering it when I bought MT car 2 years ago.

2 years ago...got a half hour lesson from place I bought it. Spent another hour or two by myself in a empty lot near the dealer. Went back signed all papers and proceeded to struggle my way home during rush hour. By the time I got home, I had serious doubts about buying a car with manual transmissio...

"When it goes right, I love the transmission. When I shift poorly, I get de-motivated and I don't like the transmission as much." That quote pretty much sums up my feelin' too. I was absolutely horrid when I first starting driving a stick 22 months ago. It's amazing how today, I drive stic...

The highest RPMs I've reached on my car is about 3500 in 5th gear. I can't even imagine reachin' redline. If I did, I'm sure my little Hyundai Accent would totally crack up into little itsy pieces. I personally hate the sound the engine makes when I rev too high in any gear. I rarely go above 2500 i...

I service Macs for a living so I speak from hands on experience. Be wary of the first gen MacBooks. I've serviced way too many of these already. There a completely new design from the iBooks they've replaced and therefore have some design flaws. The main one is a random shut down issue. There's been...

I had a weird sound when going in reverse gear. The first place I brought it to said it was throwout bearing and that I should wait til it finally goes to replace it. Another guy I went to didn't seem to think it was anything to worry about. A year later, nothing major has happened and the sound doe...

Did you happen to know what the break down was of manual vs. autos? My ex-lady has been in Jamaica for two months' now (she's from there). She's 44 years old and never learn to drive, however she decided to learn how to drive while she's there. I spoke to her several times but keep forgetting to ask...

I had reservations in the beginning too but it's really not that different than an automatic. As for quick braking, I think it's just a instinct you'll develop as time goes on. From a manual stick driving perspective, I actually think freeway driving is the most boring, cause your just going fast mo...
