Ouch-Heel Toe Flub

Long time no post, I had a fun one this morning. Been heel-toeing to get used to it, slowing way down (going about 40 ish) and going 6>4. Clutch in, blip, and slide the gear lever over... but actually went into 2nd!! Of course I didn't notice until I let the clutch out and a nice nose dive. This was...

How smooth should my driving be?

I've posted a bunch on here, I've had my GTI manual for about 9 months. Things are amazingly better than when I started thanks in part to all of the advice given here. My issue lately has been, how smooth should the ride be in a manual? A perfectly timed shift can feel totally seemless (read smoothe...

Re: How to Drive a Manual Video - The Smoking Tire

I typically come off the clutch really quick between gears, like nearly dumping the clutch. Is thag poor form and should I be going slower when engaging the clutch between gears? And add throttle? Is the result smooth enough for your preference, and otherwise satisfactory? If so, then enjoy. I can ...

Re: How to Drive a Manual Video - The Smoking Tire

When going between 1 and 2 and further gears, I noticed that he engages the clutch fairly slowly and adds gas. I believe the see saw into higher gears is kind of an old school methodology and not needed in newer cars (or I believe I've read that). I typically come off the clutch really quick between...

Re: When to blip throttle on downshift?

What you're doing now is a procedurally-correct single-clutched downshift. If you're finding more resistance to moving the shifter than you want, what you need is a double-clutched downshift. Throttle while moving the shifter won't do anything unless you're floating the gears (if you're asking this...

When to blip throttle on downshift?

Still fairly new, downshifts are pretty good (though I have my moments). I've noticed when going from 4>3 it sometimes seems like a little tougher shift than say 6>5 or 5>4. The thought occurred to me that when I downshift I am fairly sequential in my method: clutch in, move to lower gear, then blip...

Re: Winter Driving

Also for reference to others I live in central Minnesota. We get plenty of cold and plenty of snow. Looking for another 8-12 inches this upcoming weekend.

Re: Winter Driving

Me being new to owning a 3 pedal car, this is my first winter driving experience with one. Something I've noticed is that when I am starting off in a slick spot, it's hard to feel if the clutch is engaged. Here's what I mean, slowly bring the clutch pedal up while starting on the throttle, slow or ...

Re: Clutch Smell???

Yikes, 5000RPM is an awful lot of noise and drama for barely moving! You'll improve with practice. It's no worse than some of the shenanigans I've pulled on my driveway/ramps...lower RPM, but heavy clutch slipping with heavy throttle pushing a lot of torque through. I think I may even have produced...

Re: Clutch Smell???

Also if I was burning clutch, are we talking about major damage? I would guess this happens from time to time?

Re: Clutch Smell???

Also we just drove my wife's car around town and I took a sniff by her car and that's about the same smell I was smelling in the garage (warm engine). I'm not too worried at this point and I guess what can I do. Hopefully I wasn't on the clutch and shredding it. I'm thinking I wasn't slipping at th...
