Smoother shifts at maximum torque rpm: why?
Hi, I've noticed that, at maximum torque rpm, shifting is a lot smoother: it is smoother operating the gear-stick (more fluid and with no resistence at all) and smoother the engine response (easier to rev match and silky, just like easing the gas to unload trasmission smoothing transition). Before a...

Re: Perfectly smooth upshifts-trick with disengaging the clu
@theholycow Interesting! Could you give us some advice about practicing - as you do - to get good at knowing the zone of neutral throttle/neutral load on the driveline? I'm sure it will be very useful for everyone of us. Thanks It happens just barely a moment after you take your foot off of the acc...

Re: Perfectly smooth upshifts-trick with disengaging the clu
I'll chime in - It's going to be different with every car. My Saabs were very accepting of clutchless shifts (both out of and into gear), but the ZHP hangs onto the shifter for dear life... That being said, the point of neutral throttle for any vehicle speed is necessarily going to fall somewhere b...

@athoxa - maybe because I like people who speak and write correctly and with a bit of elegance in Italian, I try to do the same when I write in English. Thanks

Re: Perfectly smooth upshifts-trick with disengaging the clu
^Along those lines, if you get good at knowing when you hit neutral throttle you can shift out of gear without touching the clutch pedal. Looking at it the other way, you can practice doing that to get good at knowing neutral throttle. I do it all the time. You don't necessarily need to give it any...

Re: New member from Italy
Thanks for your welcome. I'm driving a Fiesta 1.4 TDCI (year 2007). I'm getting better using it, but I've never loved it a lot. Poor performance, notchy gearbox and some rev-hang, all features that make driving less enjoyable. I've found that I can improve my smoothness focusing on the "neutral...

Hello, I write from Italy. Be indulgent towards my English, because I rarely speak or write in English and I’m supposed to practice a bit. I stumbled upon this forum and think it is fantastic. I've always used cars with manual transmission, but I've never been fully satisfied with my precision and s...
