Re: jumpy shifts
[/quote]hard to tell just by your description, but my guess is it's mostly you and not the car. shifting at high rpms seems to be a problem for newer shifters. it sounds like you may be essentially dropping the clutch when you let it up in the next gear, instead of pausing at the friction zone. also...

jumpy shifts
I just notice I'm having jumpy shifts when shifting at 4k +. If I let the revs drop before letting the clutch out it's fine but if release the clutch after it's in gear it bounces forward then back then goes. if I don't get on the gas as quick it smooths out, it seems like the clutch isn't bitting r...

Re: New car getting going issue
Have you tried a no-gas launch? (Go out in the back 40 of a shopping center parking lot and, with the engine idling, let out the clutch until the engine rpm begins to dip and it just starts to drive the car, hesitate at that point until the car pick up little speed and then let the clutch pedal up ...

New car getting going issue
I have a 98 impreza rs and the clutch had a bad chatter. We replaced the clutch and the chatter is still there just not as bad. I notice one way to reduce it is to release the clutch quicker but I notice that when I the rpms drop to 500 engine almost stalls and then then revs bounce back up to 1000....

Re: Shift gears 1-2 question
It takes time and you will smooth out the shifts (so long as there is no mechanical problem). Could be releasing clutch too fast on the jerkier upshifts or not enough gas. I have no issues almost always perfect shifts on every other gear at around 2500 plus. Even when shifting at 2500 1-2 at normal...

Re: Shift gears 1-2 question
I haven't really looked at it much in the last few months. I was just looking at it to see what was going on.ClutchDisc wrote:My best advice is to cover up the tach and drive without it for a while. The tach is becoming a crutch.

Shift gears 1-2 question
I've gotting to the point right now where I can shift near perfect every time now. Now the 1-2 shift if I shift at 2500 normally it's fine, if I shift at the same rpm while accelerating to keep up with the cars when at light turns green it jerks. I looked at while shifting normal it goes from 2500 t...

Re: jerky upshifting question?
Giving gas while shifting 1-2 made it smooth again. Now it's just working on blipping. Right now I overblip by 800-1000 rpms, I'll get down it will just take some time.
Thank you for the help everyone.

Re: jerky upshifting question?
I got my downshifts down now. I have to work on not over revving the blips. All of my upshifts are smooth except one, My 1-2 shift is jerky again. It's my timing I release clutch slightly too fast or too slow, may try going back to giving gas while shifting into 2nd.

Re: jerky upshifting question?
About 1.5-2k miles so far. Today I changed my timing of when I added gas I got it pretty smooth but on my first upshift to 2nd While releasing the clutch I got some kind of weird noise almost like grinding and a jerk. I shifted into 2nd again after I stopped again and released the clutch alittle slo...

Re: jerky upshifting question?
Jerked forward. I tried letting it slip longer didn't help. I know it's me and not the car because my mechanic drive it with me in the car and it wasn't jerking. Give it a little more gas for a few more RPM...or shift faster. I've been trying that for the last few days and sometimes I get perfect s...

Re: jerky upshifting question?
Is your head jerked towards the windshield, or is it jerked towards the seat? If windshield, give it more RPM. If seat, give it less RPM (may have to wait) or slip the clutch longer. Jerked forward. I tried letting it slip longer didn't help. I know it's me and not the car because my mechanic drive...
