Re: Perfectly smooth upshifts-trick with disengaging the clu
You shouldn't have any issue of shifting into the next gear with the clutch only partially disengaged. By saying "partially disengaged" I meant shifting when the clutch is slipping a bit, thus transmitting some power. It's possible to press the clutch not to the floor and fully stop the t...

Re: Perfectly smooth upshifts-trick with disengaging the clu
@RITmusic2k, great remarks, that's exactly the goal of the method described by mine :D @theholycow, I've heard about the popping out of gear without the clutch. But I wonder if it makes (or increases) a risk of shifting into the next gear with partially disengaged clutch, which is bad for the car. T...

Re: Perfectly smooth upshifts-trick with disengaging the clu
@tankinbeans, just try it and and enjoy the great smoothness :) Furthermore, I suspect that the ETC in my car is designed for the above described technique. The engine revs won't instantly jump up even if I purposely delay a bit the release of the gas pedal (of course I'm still speaking about the mo...

Perfectly smooth upshifts-trick with disengaging the clutch
Hello everyone, I'd like to add a few words about performing perfectly smooth upshifts. I've found that a lot of people here focus on releasing the clutch and giving some gas. It's crucial for smooth upshifts. However, I think that proper clutch disengaging is important as well :) That's my techniqu...

Re: Driving in different shoes/sneakers
I prefer driving in thin-soled shoes with heel-to-toe drop as low as possible. They give me the best feeling of pedals, which contributes to the smooth shifting.

I invite you to see me performing different downshifting techniques, including the Technique 1 described above by theholycow (I refer to it by "power shifitng"). Enjoy

Re: Technical questions about manual transmissions
No. The amount of work that needs to be done is the same whether you do it fast or slow. Within a reasonable range of force there would be no effective difference. If you shove it hard then the force involved could be a problem. Does the synchromesh work in a "fixed" way? That means, does...

Re: Technical questions about manual transmissions
@theholycow, thanks for repying me, I guess you've misunderstood me :) Look: I don't understand what's the point of double clutching on upshifts in an unsynchronized transmission. I haven't asked about synchronized one. I don't use double clutching on upshifts in this kind of transmission, as it's p...

Re: Technical questions about manual transmissions
Thanks for your answers. The first question comes from my last discovery about shifting with the constant, light pressure in Opel Astra G Classic. If I release the clutch pedal immediately after the shift lever slips into the next gear, the revs are perfectly matched. I figured out that the intermed...

Technical questions about manual transmissions
Hi, I'm passionate about cars and manual driving techniques. However, I can't figure out a few things about manual transmissions, so I've decided to ask you some questions: 1) What component slows down faster - the intermediate shaft or the engine RPM? (I talk about the situation when the clutch ped...
