Re: I did it. I bought a minivan...
You would like the Mazda 5. Only complaint I have is it rusts like a Mazda on the body… still solid underneath though. I'm sure I would. The sound system installation looks fantastic. I was surprised how well the 4 cylinder/manual transmission did in the '85 Caravan. I'll bet the 2.3L with th...

Re: I did it. I bought a minivan...
I'm a guy who always liked minivans. I was considering a Mazda 5 with the manual transmission. I had a 1988 Ford Aerostar with a 3.0L V6 with a 5 speed manual, and a 1986 Dodge Caravan with the 2.2L I-4 with one. And another rarity, a 1980 Ford Club Wagon, 4.9L I-6 with a 4 speed manual on the floor.

Re: Change clutch fluid
You know your clutch systems! The article mentioned contaminants and moisture is a reason to change the fluid.
For over a day when try to access the forum section here I was getting an error that it was inaccessible. I don't recall exactly what it said.

Change clutch fluid
I saw an article on the doityourself website titled 'How Often Should Clutch Fluid be Changed?' Up until the vehicle I have now I haven't owned a manual transmission above 150k miles. I wonder how important/necessary changing the fluid is? I haven't read the whole article, but noted: 'The interval f...

Re: Surprised to see such an academy
Yeah, I'd say no brick, no mortar, and borowing the use of public or private parking lots. Some people maybe wouldn't be good instructors. I remember my Mom telling me how frustrating it was when my Father taught her how to drive.....she had no experience driving anything, maybe not even riding a b...

Re: Surprised to see such an academy
Good questions - I wonder about 'you would teach at a parking near you'.
I wouldn't think they own any, and maybe the 'academy' is virtual. Another job post came up today for a different city in the same state.

All is not lost, a glimmer of hope
From a Motorweek episode about the 2023 GR Corolla, after describing the 3 cylinder engine (unlike vintage Saabs and a friend's Subaru Justy) the story goes on to say 'And it gets even better, with a standard rev-matching iMT 6-speed manual transmission similar to the GR Supra’s, and GR-FOUR all-whe...

Younger generation w/standard shifts
My 2007 truck passed emissions today. I asked the kid doing the test (not seriously) if he could drive a stick - was impressed that he answered he drives one every day. I said 'Cool - you're among the very few who do every day'. Good to see someone that's the age of my kids or younger have an intere...

Re: Downhill in gear
Then it sounds like I should be doing what I've always done. Use common sense and what 'feels' right. A few years ago I lost the brakes on an older Honda Accord I had, a leak in the lines. Was very fortunate that I wasn't too far from home, but more fortunate that it was a standard shift where I cou...

Downhill in gear
Does going downhill in gear, such as 3rd (of 5 gears) on a moderate decline - use any fuel? I thought not, since as long as the accelerator isn't depressed. I've been doing that over the years assuming it would preserve the brakes just a bit. I've read in other forums it's not advisable, causing wea...

Re: Standard transmission EPA ratings
So I had a 2000 Civic. Great car...but I noticed something. When driving an indicated 65 mph, I got great gas mileage. 37-40. I then got a scangauge and realized when my speedometer indicated 65, the computer was reading about 61 mph... That could very well be. I try to stay at 65 mph, but is it re...

Re: RPM at 70 mph
Doing some mpg comparisons online brought me to this post, I know it's from 2021. Years ago, Consumer Reports would provide very detailed statistics of the vehicles they tested. Among those, was rpms at a highway speed. I believe every manual transmission vehicle's rpm was at least a few hundred rpm...

Re: Standard transmission EPA ratings
yes! Big gas tank! Comfy seats!! Back to those with the vehicle i have now. The gas tank, at I think 21 gallons was sized for most Tacomas which will be with the V6 and automatic. I'm so glad I found a cave man model with the 2.7L 4 and 5 speed manual. And my 1999 Accord EX 5MT had nice power adjus...

Re: Standard transmission EPA ratings
wait, you got 34 mpg on a 6th gen accord? best eye got on my 5th gen ex manuel was high 20s, maybe 30 on the highway. uber jelly. Yes, a couple times got 34 mpg. It was a mostly flat highway commute. If I had the same car now with the current commute it would be the typical, high 20s to maybe 30 or...
