Re: Parking gear

So, do you other slush parking brake users ever let someone else drive your car? If so, how often do they understand that the brake is on and must be released? Most people struggle with it but figure it out...but I've had at least one person drive away like that and come back complaining that my ca...

Re: Parking gear

I've yet to forget to set the handbrake, even back in my slush days. I thought I was the only person in the world who uses the parking brake with a slushbox. Lol, looks like it's just us two that use the handbrake with slushies. Add me to the list of using parking brake with a slushbox...still do. ...

Re: Fast Highway Entry Launch?

The legitimate street use for a really aggressive launch is pretty limited. For an interstate-quality highway you have an entrance ramp/acceleration lane and how close you come to your best theoretical sixty-foot time is going to be in the realm of rounding error when it comes to whether you can ge...

Re: Fast Highway Entry Launch?

If you turn of the DSC - or whatever that traction control thing is called, the hill holder feature turns off as well. The countryman doesn't have hill descent assist, at least not that I am aware of. Hmmm...I have to do a bit more research on that or at least give it a try. But I don't think I wou...

Re: Fast Highway Entry Launch?

the hill holder feature on the Mini helps - but i'll be turning that off once i get better. Looks like you're doing fairly well for someone just started driving a manual and launching an AWD can be a bit more challenging. Like everyone said, you'll just need more seat times to ironed out the small ...

Re: I found an automatic that I really like....

This isn't really new as my 2004 BMW X5 have this feature. I don't think I have used it more than a handful of times as its adaptive algorithm most likely have kicked down on its own before I have to press the pedal all the way down to activate the switch.

Re: Send this video to all your automatic driving friends!

I was only kidding about sending this to your automatic driving friends, and his presentation likely will bore them, but it would be great for them to get a guy like him on the lot, who will try to steer them to trying out a manual, instead of steering them to the fanciest and most convenience load...

Re: 2015 BMW M3, M4 to offer stick option

with more & more gadgets cramped into cars these days, no wonder no one wants to drive a manual. Most people can barely drive an automatic nowadays without being distracted by all those gadgets :(

Re: 2015 BMW M3, M4 to offer stick option

I think the take rate for manual is only about 20% nowaday, even for the M division, when it used to be 100% since the M division never used to offer "automatics". I'm sure the manual will slowly disappear in M cars :(

Re: How often do you drive just for pleasure?

It's amazing how much driving stick made me enjoy driving. When I use to drive auto I would dread being the one to drive friends sometimes. Now im the one who always wants to drive. Driving auto was just driving because I needed too, now driving manual is also as if driving is one of my favorite ho...

Re: New manual driver, have some questions

^^^Exactly. If you shift into 1st before coming to a complete stop, it means that you'll have to hold the clutch for the entire duration of the wait. Your throwout bearing wouldn't like you for this. This is just bad habit, IMHO. You will prematurely wear out your synchors & throwout bearing, as...

Re: Got a new car

Liking the new Si...congrats. Looks like a fun ride. Wished there is a rear spoiler delete option...at least for the sedan, but at least it's a more conservative design than the previous gen's funky rear spoiler.

Re: New manual driver, have some questions

To clear things up...when you said you tried to stick it in 1st before stopping, I'm assuming that you're only moving the stick in position while you're clutched in and not actually tried to downshift into 1st at 20mph? Out of curiosity, why do you want to put it in 1st while you're still doing 20mp...
