Re: Shock to the engine?

The agent herself was dumbfounded. She told me to stay where I was when I said that w/ AAA I pay about 1/4th that per month.

Re: Shock to the engine?

Lambo? I didn't know the pic I posted looked so exotic

I think its a combination of being 21, living in a shitty city, and the coverage being full.

Re: Shock to the engine?

In Michigan they have this thing called a "Driver's Responsibility" fee. Basically if you're caught without insurance, you pay a fine of 200 dollars, in addition to whatever fines you end up paying because of the ticket. How much it "hurts" is relative to income, but for me, the...

Re: Shock to the engine?

Well, Rope-Pusher, you wanted her put away...I'd say she's pretty badly screwed without that happening. It has to hurt more than that to get someone to pay real money each year for insurance that obviously isn't really mandatory. In Michigan they have this thing called a "Driver's Responsibili...

In that case, I will sleep well at night knowing I played a hand, however small, in ruining her financially :D

Re: Shock to the engine?

The good news is that you're legally entitled to everything you reasonably should get. The bad news is you'll probably never get it. :( Yeah no kidding. The fact that she was coming out of a Meijer parking lot at 5pm on a workday with a kid in the car does not bode well for the prospect of her havi...

Re: Shock to the engine?

I have been doing some research and her not having insurance may be the one thing that salvages this situation for me. Apparently if the offending party is not insured, the $500 limit goes out the window  I can sue her for the whole amount of the damages. I am going fill out the paperwork t...

Re: Shock to the engine?

Well I just got back from the body shop, they said I was looking at $3k easy. Regarding the insurance stuff: Unfortunately, Michigan is a "no fault" state, meaning whatever damage results from an accident, you have to make the claim with your own insurance company. You then pay your deduct...

Re: Shock to the engine?

I'd be most worried about the side airbags being deployed. I'm surprised the insurance company didn't total it after that . Side airbags can't be cheap to replace, if they can even be replaced. I didn't understand what you meant in that part. Total what? Also, my deductible is 2k (through AAA), and...

Shock to the engine?

Well, today I had the pleasure of getting hit on the passenger side by a lady making a left out of a Meijer parking lot. I was going straight in my lane, she was to my right, I saw she was not looking my way at ALL and just made the turn. My poor Honda Civic Ex has a huge dent on the door now, and i...

Question about passengers and RPM

So I've gotten quite good at shifting smoothly when I'm driving alone. I've noticed something over the past few days though and was hoping you guys could confirm that its not my imagination... The other day I had my buddy in the car with me, and repeatedly my upshifts were rough. Nothing crazy, but ...

Re: Brand new manual driver...a little depressed

Hi there, I can't offer much help in the way of driving technique as I am pretty new myself to stick, but I can tell you that you have no reason to be depressed, its normal I think. The first week I was extremely frustrated as well w/ my driving: my starts blew, stalled at almost every red light on ...

Re: First week driving manual, some Qs

Replacing the shift knob shouldn't be too tough. In my car, there's 2 clips on the bottom of the knob which are covered by the collar. I push the collar in at those two points and pull down. After that, it's just twisting it til it comes off. Yours may be the same way, or it may just be a few twist...

Re: First week driving manual, some Qs

Hi guys, glad to say my starts have improved muuuch more over the last few days :D I've been keeping the RPMs at or under 1500 while I slip. The only issue now is that as I come up on the clutch all the way, there is a jerk or two as I lift my foot up off the clutch completely. Mind you, I'm not rus...
