Re: 'Spirited' Driving?
I don't notice any rev hang on my 2007 Mazdaspeed3 ...maybe it's my driving style but the revs fall quickly. I drove a 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0 Turbo and really noticed the rev hang.

Re: Uphill Launches Without Handbrake
My Mazdaspeed3 (2.3L turbo) is extremely difficult to hold on my steep(ish) driveway with just the clutch. It's starts to burble and shake like it's on the absolute edge of stalling and I'm never confident that I have it in the exact spot so that I won't roll back. I tend to just let go of the brake...

Re: Perching on an Incline Waiting to Enter Busy Street
I would say to keep the car in 1st gear with the clutch in and foot on the brake. Once you see an opening do your regular hill start procedure and get yourself out onto the main street. If you find that you aren't going to make the opening clutch in and push the brake back in and try again when you ...

Re: How to stay consistant after every shift.
Once I bought my own manual transmission (2007 Mazdaspeed3) car I never had a problem stalling but I had a horrible time bogging/choking (600rpm) or over-revving (1800rpm). I think paying too close attention to everything made me hyper-sensitive to the feel of the car nearing a stall. The bogging/ch...

Re: need some clearing up regarding clutch and gas
I tend to use the first method on flat ground and the second when on hills.

Re: Hi all! new to driving stick, had a few questions.
Here's one way which is how I am launching these days. It's easier to keep your revs down by having the clutch at the friction point before gassing. As you gently press down on the gas you can ease the pressure off the clutch as the car starts to move a bit - this will keep your revs from climbing a...

Re: Driving Stick is Stressing Me Out - Help !
If you drove the same route at 4:00am, would you still have troubles launching on that hill? Is it the pressure of not wanting to be the putz who holds up traffic, or is it the hill / car combo no matter what time of day? I gotta say a lot of it is the pressure of not wanting to be the putz. I don'...

Re: Taking turns and upshifting?
" Nothing racy." I do leave space and I am not launching fast. I have the opposite problem of many others here in that I need to launch even slower than no-gas launches! It's not just at lights. I turn onto a road with a speed limit of 40mph. I get up to that speed, think about shifting t...

Re: Is this rev hang?
Something you can do in the meantime is employ one of the hand-position-adjustment techniques to help you avoid shifting into the wrong gate. The one I like to use is "thumbs up/thumbs down". If I'm shifting into 1st or 2nd (the left-of-center positions in the h-gate) from any gear, I pul...

Re: Is this rev hang?
So you have an MS3 right? You have the Motorcraft fluid? I've been thinking about doing that when spring comes. Was the difference as night and day as people say it is? Yes I have a 2007 MS3. I would have to say the fluid change is most noticeable when it's really really cold. We've had some -25c t...

Re: Is this rev hang?
You're fine. Happens to the best of us. And I've heard the Speed3's have an iffy 3rd gear placement. Spaced too close to the others. You can actually adjust the shift linkage to make it much easier to get into the gear. Mine is 1000x better than when I got it but I've also done solid shifter bushin...

Re: Is this rev hang?
I think I got it figured out. It was warm today so I decided to take it out and see what's up. I didn't have the problem at all. I think it was mainly psychological! Thank goodness. I did have one issue though. I was having a little...shall we say...fun and I was going for the 4-5 shift and I misse...

Re: Is this rev hang?
I suppose I'm overanalyzing it...I tend to be a little too hard on myself at times... I'm guilty of this too...it's called OCD! LOL I drive an 07 Mazdaspeed3... I think I tend to give light throttle while clutching up in 2nd so the car doesn't slow down too much and jerk while on inclines and hills...

Re: 6 mo. in, but questions remain
For the sake of discussion ...which of these would you consider the "best" approach to starting (I think I do all of these at different times): 1) start lifting clutch while gently pressing gas to around 1000-1100rpms, car starts to move, hold gas steady and slowly ease pressure off clutch...
