Re: Clutch pedal play
Update. The dealership replaced the entire clutch pedal and bushings...however it didn't change the amount of side to side play. Since there was no forman on duty I need to take the car back on Monday. Any idea what else it could be? While I was at the dealer they had two other 3 series with manual ...

Re: Redline MTL vs factory gearbox fill
Redline is a popular with BMWs. It is often recommended by the BMWCCA tech editor as a replacement to the factory fill.

Re: Clutch pedal play
Thx for the reply. Next time I am at the dealership I will see if they can do a warranty repair. I don't thing these bushings should go only after two years. Could my technique have anything to do with it?

Clutch pedal play
How much side to side free play in the clutch pedal is generally considered normal? On my car, I've recently notice side to side play of almost 1/2 inch which is def noticeable. My car is a couple of years old....not sure what causes this?

Re: Parking brake reminder / warning
This happened to me once... On a slight incline, in a rush, parked and quickly went to my trunk to retrieve some bags only to realize that my car was starting to roll in my direction. Thankfully I was able to backtrack quickly and engage the handbrake. Lesson learned!

Re: Starting in 2nd
I had a mental lock today... when sitting in traffic I tried to launch in 2nd gear on a slight incline twice in a row. I didn’t realize that I was in 2nd.
Hopefully I only shaved off a small amount of clutch life. The car definitely felt like it was upset with me.

Re: Shifting from 4th to 5th smoothly
I had the same issue but have gotten use to the 4-5 shift. I found that releasing the throttle just after declutching raised the rpms enough to allow for a smooth shift. I generally do this when I am shifting below 3k rpm, above that rpm I usually have a enough time to shift without the blip.

Rollback in gear
When parking in my driveway this evening i forgot to pull the hand brake after shutting off the car and shifting into first gear. My car started to roll back before I realized th hand brake was not set which surprised me since I thought that leaving the car in gear would also hold the car similar to...

Optimum No Rinse
Lately I have been using this product (Optimum No Rinse) and have been quite surprised with the results. It allows you to wash your car without using a hose. Any one here use this?

Re:
Also, when I shift into first at a stop like that, I'll clutch it, shift into 2nd, and without declutching, shift into 1st. I have found that doing this allows my stick to slide into 1st a lot smoother. I was taught this technique when I learned to drive with 3 pedals. Not sure how many of you guys...

Re: "Shifting Technique a great article"
He's just saying to do basic rev-matching, except he's giving specific instructions on how to do it when those instructions are NOT universal. Sure, in cars where the engine speed drops fast those instructions will work, but with rev hang or a heavy flywheel the instructions will make your shifts w...

"Shifting Technique a great article"
http://exclusiveautomotive.blogspot.com/2007/03/shifting-technique-great-article.html Curious what you think about this blog post on shifting technique. What I found interesting is how the posts focuses on throttle manipulation, unlike other articles on the web on driving stick shift. Lately I have ...
