Aisle keep that in mined. It didn't happen this week - needed more notice to coordinate meal plans with my son's household also.

We're on for this coming Thursday.

Re: Cartridge Oil Filter--Fram 20K vs. K&N

The Gubmint doesn't require more than 1 gear range, but if there is more than one forward gear ratio, then there MUST be a provision for downshifting manually (to help manage speed on downhill runs). Seems I recall years ago seeing signs in the Rocky Mountains warning people to keep the car in gear...

Re: Slaves

We should probably get with the times and refer to them as "Enslaved Hydraulic Cylinders".

Re: Slaves

Did anyone ever come up with an answer to this: So I inspected several front drive manual cars and they all have external slave cylinders and a clutch fork. Why did they not go with the concentric slave on the front drivers? I kinda said something about it on the post with the Master Cylinder.....N...

Re: Cartridge Oil Filter--Fram 20K vs. K&N

Most RWD Amish transmixers don't have a 1:1 gear ration inside them when they are 1:1. They just use a synchronizer hub and sleeve to lock the input shaft to the output shaft, so there are no gears involved in the transmission of torque. Re: Cartridge Oil Filter--Fram 20K vs. K&N

Direct drive really isn't great in one respect. The most even gear wear is obtained when the numbers of gear teeth on each gear have no common factors. Common factors in the numbers of gear teeth lead to a reduction in the number of teeth on the other gear that mesh with a given tooth. Direct drive...

Re: Cartridge Oil Filter--Fram 20K vs. K&N

My 5 speed doesn't have a direct drive. Three under, two over. That is interesting because I always thought the direct drive is the most robust ratio in mechanical durability. Also it is like a freeby gear ratio as it does not require as much parts, no? Or is it actually simpler to not have direct ...

You won't need x-ray glasses. Just look for the sparks flashing out the back end as I grind the subframe dragging on the pavement. https://i.pinimg.com/474x/a0/f9/6e/a0f96ecf5cb81028d87250eb35f05cd8.jpg I think you need Magnesium or at least high-carbon steel strips to take the abuse and provide pl...

Re: Plastic Pan Under Engine Bay

Number one reason for a Belly-Pan is to reduce aerodynamic drag. Yes, Belly-Pans may result in higher under-hood temperatures and oil coolers might need to be added to mitigate this concern. "To improve Cd, designers may make the following changes: Round the edges of the front end Tune the gril...

Re: Cartridge Oil Filter--Fram 20K vs. K&N

It would be interesting to understand the basis for the mechanic saying that "Fram is Crap". You would need to do a controlled, long-term study on a fleet of vehicles before you could say that a given brand of filter was allowing more damage to engines than another brand of filter did. Eve...

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi

Went outside about an 1/2 hour before dark the other day, with the intent on mowing the lawn ( Why don't they call it lowering the Lawn? ). After 3 pumps on the primer bulb, the mower started up on the first pull, like usual. I cut a couple passes across the lawn and then it started sputtering and d...
