Re: New member

Thanks for responding. I don't live anywhere near bumper to bumper traffic so I'd have very few reasons to give up a daily manual any time soon (knock on wood). I find driving overall pretty boring with most cars, and being forced to shift makes it much less so. I'll be mellow when I'm dead. My ide...

Re: 3/4 of a Century and still the problem

In days of yore, when carburetors utilized an idle-stop solenoid, I rigged a switch to disrupt power to said solenoid ("Solenoid" - there, I said it. Are you happy?) while the engine was still running. It lowered the idle speed to the point that the vehicle would no longer creep forward when in Drive.

Re: Are manual transmission vehicles going to increase in value?

It was 2 years ago, the day before Thanksgiving (American), that the deer came bounding across the road and into the path of my vehicle out on I-94. I decided that it was worth ~$2400 of my own money to chip in on top of what my insurance policy payout for "Totalling" the vehicle, towards the repair...

Re: Upshifting Technique Question

How can that be smooth? Your technique must be good. haha my dad showed me to feel the stick for when it stops vibrating to know when to shift. 'tis much harder in newer cars with cable-linked shifters or otherwise disconnected shifters that don't feel connected to the gearbox. the only synchro box...

Re: Upshifting Technique Question

I float out clutch in with most of my shifts on my Jeep. Just seems to be a habit I've unconsciously gotten into from driving a big truck more than my personal vehicle. It does seem to be pretty smooth most of the time though. Is that what it is called. I thought I was just being lazy, but coming i...

Re: Honest Engines

Hey Noob5,000,000! The guest on Autoweek After Hours says he's got a handle on what has been the big problem with rotary engines - the compression leaks past the spark plug and effectively you lose half the pressure....and also that's unburned fuel-air misture, not just air, so emissions and fuel s...
