Re: Octane Ratings, when did they drop

Multi-sparkplug Hemi engines can make horsepower cheaply when naturally aspirated, or grandly when supercharged, and all that with only 2 valves per cylinder. If and when the Hemi goes the way of the dodo, theres no way the replacement will be nearly as simple, reliable, and relatively efficient. I...

Re: Octane Ratings, when did they drop

Usta was that valves per liter was kind of a measure of how much power one, or two, might get from a given engine design. High-end sports cars often had many small cylinders in order to increase the power output for a given displacement limit. There are more ways to detach the epidermis from that fe...

Re: Octane Ratings, when did they drop

Yeah. I run 87 during the colder months here in TX but 93 during the blistering heat. "Colder" I wish I could do that. I'm a 93 year round kind of guy. I don't even think about it any more honestly. Its honestly better not to when Im getting 20mpg out of a four cylinder station wagon. https://ih1.r...

Re: Octane Ratings, when did they drop

I'm pretty sure 87 has been considered "regular" for about as long as gas hasn't had lead in it. I remember......what was it I remembered?....oh yeah.....I remember when they called it Ethyl and not lead. People knew lead could be poisonous, but Ethyl, why she was some girl your dad dated before he...

Re: Octane Ratings, when did they drop

In particular, when did regular pump gas drop to 87 octane? My and ClutchDisk's '92 Mustang 5.0 LX is rated at 9:1 compression. My gearhead friend at work says 87 octane is fine. The guy who sold it to us said he always runs premium. He did not say there were any engine mods so I am thinking it is ...

Rob, Rob, Rob, No, No, No! No wonder the nubes never stick around anymore - You handled that all wrong. You should have handled it like the French would have. Here he is, just got off the boat, and there you go telling him his post was full of nonsense. Now he's got nothing to do but feel bad for hi...

Re: Seams Tummy Eye Dew Recall.....

I'm guessing it's specifically for the Amish because there are those who, for some reason I can't grok, park out of gear and rely entirely on the parking brake. Those in autos, at least the people I know, don't engage them enough to even notice. In my car the electric parking brakes whirrs a bit, t...

Re: Front Stabilzer Bar Links: How Important

Thanks, but your explanation seems to pertain mostly to cornering. But would the front stabilizer bar have an effect on straight line acceleration and maintaining straight tracking? I suspect that the answer is, if the car is accelerating in a straight line and breaks traction it will start turning...

Re: Front Stabilzer Bar Links: How Important

So when we (ClutchDisk and I) got the 92 5.0 Mustang it would kind of twist to the side some on hard acceleration. I thought it was that the tires were breaking traction but didn't hear any squealing. The shop said the front stabilizer bar links were both broken. Since we replaced the broken links ...

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi

Emissions are still within standard testing parameters at all times. No monitors have been disabled or tricked. I should still see an increase in fuel economy. Relax,....I wasn't gonna turn you in. Do you think the EPA has a rewards program, like a certain amount of money for ratting on a fender? I...
