Re: What happened to this place?
It's always nice to poke back in here and know that the forum is still foruming as it was since my last absence. Hope everyone's new year was a breath of fresh air! I'm back in California, working at a higher position with my former employer, I got married, got the car paid off, and am now driving h...

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi
There's nothing wrong with moving your head inside the cabin in order to increase your viewing angle through the mirrors. The way I adjust mine to eliminate the blind spot is to align the mirror so that I can just see the edge of my car when my head is leaning toward the driver's side window (and le...

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi
Glad to see we have a few Eagle Scouts represented here! My board of review went long, though after the fact I was tipped off that it was because they liked my responses and wanted more. From my perspective it felt harder than a job interview, but the inquiries were a nice balance between challengin...

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi
I thought most electric vehicles were configured to produce regenerative engine braking when you come completely off of the accelerator pedal. For factory-designed electric vehicles, yes - I'm only referring to a particular Civic Del Sol on which somebody performed an electric conversion in their g...

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi
Eyed think that the synchronizers would thank you if you disengaged the clutch while shifting. Intuitively I'd agree, but it seems that there's much less of an issue since there's no mass of a flywheel and crank. When everything's mechanically connected through the transmission, all you're turning ...

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi
how would a stick shift work in an electric vehicle? I have a buddy who was planning to retrofit an electric drivetrain into his Civic Del Sol, just for fun. There are youtube videos out there of people who have done so, and all say pretty much the same thing as Boring did below - you just the gear...

Re: What happened to this place?
Hi guys! Yeah, it's quiet here - in the last month there have been a few newcomers with questions, but THC and RP usually have the responses handled by the time I check in... so I haven't been commenting nearly as much either. We're probably all in a similar boat - still enthusiastic, but otherwise ...

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi
Happy New Year, all! It's been a delightful weekend, as we've seen our first snow up in Portland. I grew up driving in snow, but always with small-engine FWD vehicles... and I'm glad to say that Echo performed like a champ in it, despite being equipped with summer tires. Traction control kicked in a...

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi
Dang, Tony.
So, I'm sure none of us actually wish to put this monster of a thread to rest since it probably belongs in the Guinness book by now, but it occurs to me that with the new Star Wars movie coming out on Friday, it'd be a great time to create a Misc Thread VII: The Forum Awakens.

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi
As many of you know, many of our biggest purchases don't truly transfer ownership until years down the road. It's usually the case with cars, and nearly always the case with homes, that you "own" your property in a colloquial sense, but your bank really owns it. Well, it's been just shy of...

I feel bad for all y'all who've never experienced the joys of a slidey rear end.

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi
I do miss snow - up here in my part of PNW we just get fog and rain and the occasional hailstorm, but no fluffy whites. Still though, even just with a little rain in these temperatures my rear end gets pleasantly slidey, thanks to the summer tires that I refuse to switch out.
