DocPHD - I had my 1999 Camaro V6 5-speed up to 130+ (past the speedometer) and did not hit a governor. Only reason I stopped was a patch in the left-rear tire had me worried of a blow-out. :P gee. do Camaros even have govs? wait... must be an option Actually his V6 should have had a governor,...

The gearing in my car: ... 6th is useless for top speed is that a governer chip reason or a lack of road straight/long/without-traffic enough reason? EDIT: btw, it's rated to top out at 198 that's because there isn't enough power to keep accelerating with that gear, with all the resistance it faces...

My favorite part is how, right near the end, both cars were going 120+, and STILL had another gear to go! x 100 Yeah lol but it actually looks like he downshifts to 4th at 120 :DD My 4th in the BMW is good until 135 or so. Subaru on the other hand ... 105. Oh yeah. The gearing in my car...

As someone said though I am surprised it was left on the lot, and not put in the showroom. Almost a little suspicious since it was left out where it could get stripped...

I just checked it, there's supposed to be a button, but I guess I never pushed it in hard enough. It didn't feel like it would budge last time, I'll try it again. I rode in a GM car just now on lunch. Push the button in (it is somewhat difficult) to activate the 4-ways, then pull on the collar arou...

I saw something that really made me go  In my last Road & Track issue, there was a reader letter that said: I like the Dodge Viper, but why doesn't Dodge offer a Tiptronic transmission option? Porsche and Chevy have already done it. Tiptronics have sold many Corvettes. So why not the Vipe...

I Go To Costco wrote:And believe it or not the majority of Corvettes sold are automatics. Also, modified automatic Corvettes are faster than automatic modified manual Corvettes. Long explanation, but look up stall converters.
Remember the fastest Corvettes come in 6-speed only; Z06... 'nuff said!

Welcome! If you were looking for a cheap MR2, you should've found a first gen AW11, those are quick pocket rockets when equipped with the SC. While taken as a whole domestic cars are far more reliable than European cars by industry failure rates... Way to state the obvious. There are so many off-brand Eurocars aroud that nobody outside of their country of origin ever hear of. These are frequently cheaply made insta-junkers. Take that alo...

@Azrael: I don't want to KNOW what you had to do to bend the valves on a Honda, it's not a common problem. Sounds like that guy who thought VWs were quit because he was grinding his transmission to dust. :? Look at the reports earlier in the thread, major American manufactures are below industry av...

Simple enough: Most American vehicle owners are thrilled when their car makes it to 100k miles. I expect at least 200k, and more like 300k. I've never had two transmissions FAIL on a Japanese car in such a short period of time, let alone at all. American cars have a horrible reputation to be mechan...
