MKIII/MKIV 4-door VW Golf with a stick. Put on a roof rack and you're set.

I agree. Comparatively, the Northeast doesn't have as big of a modding/"tuner" scene as some other parts of the nation. You try and slam a VW like that here in NYC, and you're asking for trouble.

Re: RWD cars, cheap, list
Front wheel drive is inherently inferior as you are tasking the front wheels with acceleration, turning, and deceleration. RWD or AWD alleviate some of the work so the car overall has better grip. Exactly. However, another factor is that you will only have those three competing for traction if you'...

Re: The Taurus SHO lives again!
Mrs Soccer and Mr Golfer should stick to leser Taurus. I completely agree, but that's not the American way. A family sedan shouldn't need more than 200 or so horsepower/torque. The Europeans have that right, which is why you can consistently see their sedans having smaller, more efficient engines. ...

Re: throwing the car in neutral
Isn't it a PRNDL? Tell her to shove it into the L/low mode if she's going down a hill. Then she'll get engine braking and will still be in gear, instead of disconnecting the transmission entirely. Next best thing to downshifting into a lower gear with a stick, I suppose.

Re: The Taurus SHO lives again!
It also has to do with the target market. Ford's overseas operations have manual transmissions in their larger sedans (case in point: Australia), because manuals are the norm around those parts. Around here, sticks have more of an enthusiast following. Being a larger car, the SHO will be less of an ...

Re: The Taurus SHO lives again!
If they stick this drivetrain in a Fusion or MS6, they damn well better offer it with a stick.

Re: The Taurus SHO lives again!
I wonder what makes Ford thinks it is ok to charge 40k for a Taurus. I can pick up an Infinity G37 or a Cadillac CTS for that kind of money. Their defense is that it's a full-size sedan, while other things in that price range are mid-size and even compact. It makes the price slightly more rational....
