Gary, thanks for the detailed answer. Nice collection of cars.
I currently drive a '95 Miata (1.8L baby!) as well as an M3. Perfect combo, in my opinion.

Re: Fastest way to brake?
Fastest way? Stomp on the brake, but ease up just before locking up or ABS, then stomp on it again. . I'm sorry, but that is the dumbest thing I've heard all day. That's why ABS is there ... to do the "easing up". ... I probably don't need to reply to this comment, as others have already ...

Re: Whats up with rev-match?
... i just brake until i am at around 20 mph press the clutch, shift back to 2th gear and release it slowly. ( you actually can do it quite fast but its not recommended if you want to drive comfortably, because of the sudden rev change the engine will have to endure ) the engine will rise in rpm wh...

Re: Fastest way to brake?
Fastest way? Stomp on the brake, but ease up just before locking up or ABS, then stomp on it again. You won't have time to downshift sequentially while heel-toeing people. We're talking about panic braking in seconds here! As for clutching in during hard stopping. It's to prevent stalling, and (usua...

E-brake handle on the new Civics - hands down the best e-brake design ever! BMW's smooth inline six engines, whether the 2.5 or 3.0 or 3.2 Launch control (only tried the one in M3, but not the one in Ferraris) One-hand operated top on a Miata Slanted, driver-centric cockpit on older bimmers Ferrari ...

Double clutching on upshifts is not a dying art, especially if you drive a dying car. Mine is a 95 Miata. I double clutch on upshifts from time to time, but only on 2-3 upshifts, when the engine is still cold. The prior owner was probably killing the syncros on this sequence, so when the engine is c...

here here
3 weeks of vacation + a full day sitting on my azz at work + wooden-soled dress shoes + Miata's lack of low end torque and grabby clutch = one of those bad days.

In my eyes, its basically a tiptronic with a clutch instead of a torque converter. well, 2 actually, but you get the idea. Pretty much it. Although, add in ... ... with an auto mode that is smoother than most slushies ... upshifts (sepecially) and downshifts faster than anyone with a stick or any t...

i feel sorry for your engines. Why? I do the same thing ... I drive it hard, but I also maintain it well ... and if I break it, I fix it ... simple as that. I bought the car, the car didn't buy me; if I say we're staying at redline all day, it will happen. A properly maintained engine wont have any...

Re: hubby and i are having a disagreement
thank you for the welcome. well, i know when i'm lugging and i don't, i mean i'm not lugging when i'm in 5th gear. you know it just feels smooth riding and when he drives it feels like......my poor car. lol. he tells me that 5th gear is just overdrive and i'm only supposed to use it on the highway,...

What are you waiting for? 1. At $5,000 that '97 NA is a steal. At $4000, it's just robbery. (KBB is notoriously low for estimating NA's value. Your cousin can easily get $6500 for that VERY clean car. And to boot, you already know the car was well taken care of.) 2. An NA (1989-97) will give you les...
