The car the stuntman is driving @ the end of the piece is the same as what I drive; a Rover 75. Although mine is a much better colour & I wouldn't be brave enough to try his tricks.

The Rover 75 isn't sold in US of A so I presume Americans on this forum are unfamiliar with it.

You'd have to be mentally very strong to coupe with the feelings of remorse and guilt. I wonder if the kid kidnapped in Missouri wanted to kill his captor? Is it easier to take someones life the older one gets...? I think everyone has the ability to kill, but the ability to deal with it afterwards i...

My car has syncromesh on reserve gear. It's bloody good too. No embarrassing scrunches & no whirring noise. All manuals should have syncromesh on reserve gear. Why shouldn't manuals be as user friendly as possible. With all the attention focused on improving automatics I wonder if manuals have b...

With my sunroof open & the back passenger window partly down creates a perfect air current through the cabin for the driver. So windows/sunroof for urban driving & a/c for open road driving. The theory is having you windows down for open road driving actually creates more drag on your car &a...

Re: Welcome to StandardShift.com!

An excellent site discussing the basics of driving stick: http://www.nerocam.com/ManTrans.asp I read some of this article when I first came across this forum & couldn't remember where I found it. Now that I've, it's a good summary of both how manuals work & driving techniques. I reckon it s...

ignore the shift light. those things are usually set at low rpms to maximize fuel economy. my coworker's Saab's shift light tells him to shift at 2.5k every time. . Eh... I've never heard of a 'shift light' before. Kind of defeats the point of driving a manual if you let a light tell you when to sh...

You guys haven't heard of no-gas downshifting? It works in very specific circumstances and causes minimal clutch wear. Say you're in third. If you slow to where the revs drop to about 1000-1300, you can slip it into 2nd without the blip. That would be because the revs are so low there isn't a signi...

I think it's the same for every state, 15 to get a learner's permit (have to have an adult, licensed driver in the passenger seat) and 16 to get the actual license. i could be wrong though, there may be some states that have a higher age limit. Sounds pretty much the same as in New Zealand. I've be...

Welcome to the forum.

There is more to this forum than detailed info about manual transmissions. There are discussion about power'n torque and heaps of other things, it's great.

What age can you get your first licence in the States? I presume it may vary between states.

All Mazda3 S's come with the 2.3L I4 that makes 160HP/150FT-lbs. Nice little engine, although I'm unimpressed with the fuel economy (24/29). They've a Mazda 3 MPS version I believe - from memory it's a twin turbo 2.3L S4. But I can see from the standard wheels it's not the MPS version. That's not a...

I prefer the Mazada3 saloons to the hatchs.

What size engine has she got - 2.3 straight 4?

My car idles around 900rpm - which is normal going by the other posts in this thread.

Ford Taurus' were released in NZ but they aren't too common. But I'd imagine a manual Taurus in the US is even less common.

Diesel are inherently more efficient due to their higher compression ratio. This means they get more energy from fuel than a gasoline engine would, especially at low engine speed. That's why, for both engine turning at low engine speed, a diesel has more torque. Good explains scionkid. With fuel in...

Ok, here's my question;

How come diesels produce more torque @ lower rev range than petrols? And why do petrol engines tend to spin to a high rpm?

Did you use to just let out the clutch and have a huge under-rev effect every time? Well I'm almost ashamed to admit it now, but yeah..... for down shifts I used to just slowly let the clutch out & allow the revs to catch up. May my clutch forgive me. But the thing is I reckon the majority of s...
