I have an mk3 jetta but it isnt the VR6 engine, i have the 2.0 What generation are you thinking of getting? From what i have heard they can be slightly more problematic than the 2.0 though. They are faster, that is certain. Overall, i give the jetta a thumbs up though, do it. Make sure its a stick

More minor problems from a VW...

Well my car just hit 88,000 so all of the small minor parts in the car are starting to gradually give me trouble. Again, the car is a 97 VW Jetta. After a 2 hour drive home from school, I shut my car off and noticed the interior lights were out. Also, the sunroof no longer works (i can manually clos...

No its definitely losing power, sometimes worse than others. Today i was behind a line of traffic (fully loaded dump truck :x ) and had to downshift from 2nd to 1st (traffic had stopped) and the car died (and no i didnt stall it). It started right back up and otherwise ran fine the rest of the way w...

Possible car issue...

Noticed a problem today in my car and naturally I assumed that this would be the first place to seek advice. That being said, I noticed a lag in my car when it goes up hills. In the past, a hill in 4th gear at speed was no problem but it now starts to slow down noticeably. Even after I downshift to ...

I know I dont post freqently, but I read the site relatively often (esp. for the manual in the news section). Anyway...I was given the oppertunity to drive a 22 hour road trip this weekend, gas paid for and in my car. Couldnt be more excited. The drive is from north of Pittsburgh, PA to Montreal, QC...

e brake is frozen?

So I get in my car ('97 Jetta GT) yesterday, take the e brake off and put it in gear to get going. The usual. The e brake was stuck on and I had to get to campus for class so I drove it. It was sluggish at first and now I'm pretty sure its partially burned out. The first four "notches" on ...

funny story

So I went to test drive a 1997 VW Jetta GT this past summer. About 50 yards up the road from the dealership I realized that the clutch was almost completely burnt out. By the end of the drive the car would barely move in 1st gear (probably because the clutch wasnt making any contact at all??). Anywa...
