Re: Downshifting: when has slipping the clutch gone too far?

tank makes some good points i want to elaborate on: Quite honestly, many of the people I know who drive a manual have never heard of, nor have any idea how to downshift. Their cars feel no ill effects. Heck, sometimes when wearing bulky shoes which make bastardized heel-towing difficult I do the sl...

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi

I think it was the right thing. I've read around and it appears Ford have sorted the Powershift, too late as per normal. I can honestly say that I've forgotten how quick the NA Focus is. While not anywhere approaching ludicrously fast, it certainly gets out its own way and accelerates with aplomb. ...

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi

Welp, the Buick has shuffled...out of my driveway. Got the head gaskets done, but now it won't start. Started just fine before the project, but now it's dead. This leads me to believe that something got borked during the project. I'm washing my hands of it before I'm led of to the poorhouse in a co...

Re: New to me 19 year old car

I suppose part of the Subaru's appeal was it's slight crudeness, which includes the distinctive sound of the flat-4 engine. Overall though, the driving experience for me is so much better in the Honda, ironically - one that's even older than my 2002 Forester. The Accord certainly is more comfortabl...

Re: Manuals you'll miss in 2019...

Interesting no CD player in a new car but - I was in Staples a few weeks ago and just took a look at some new PCs. None had any kind of optical drive. The CD/DVD player stopped working in my pc several years ago. This weekend I fired up an old laptop my ex gave me, fortunately this time (it doesn't...

Re: Manuals you'll miss in 2019...

For a midsize sedan it looks like Honda (Accord Sport) is one of the few new 2019 models available with a manual. My recently acquired '99 EX with a 5MT was the top of the line model that year. Last year the Honda HRV was available with a manual trans. only on the FWD model. I just looked at the 20...

Re: New to me 19 year old car

Regarding the spare key copy - went to a Honda dealership today, I was there less than a half hour. A good chip key copy was made from the VIN, the car's ECU was not accessed. The tech said older Hondas chip keys can be (or are) programmed from the key itself, or totally from the VIN. The tech did ...

Re: New to me 19 year old car

Yes it's an EX. It is in decent shape. I do need to address the small amount of rust. I'll check to see how to post a picture on here. The chip only disables the immobilizer which allows the engine to start. The copies made just weren't exact enough. I wouldn't mind if I had to fool with a spare ke...

Re: New to me 19 year old car

wow, nice find, if it's in decent shape overall at least. never heard of a honda having a chip in the key for the doors. is that an EX?? maybe that generation had it on the higher end models. i had a 96 (previous gen) accord ex manual and a 15 accord sport manual (and a 93 lx auto and 03 lx auto), s...

Re: Manuals you'll miss in 2019...

Big surprise there. At least their DSGs are good. Aren't they also fickle AF or have they developed one that isn't buttass expensive to maintain? i have never had one, but I hear (read) they are robust AH these days. Don’t hear much about mechatronic units going bad on newer VAG DSGs these days. Th...
