Now this seems weird. I never knew until recently that the base early 60s Chrysler Newport, and some Dodge and Plymouth models came with a 3 speed manual floor shift. Supposedly due to the way the steering column was designed it was impractical to try to incorporate a shift lever as they were relatively short, and the automatic transmission was on the dash with push buttons. My parents had a 1961 Chrysler Newport, my grandparents a 1964 Chrysler New Yorker with the automatics. I recall park was a sliding lever.
