Nice truck and video. Double clutching is definately fast becoming a lost art.

I think if more people saw this they might have a little more patience with truckers.

I finally got around to teaching myself to double clutch a couple weeks ago, and I always feel like I'm doing it too slowly. I'm sure I'm not, but for some reason my reaction times always feel too slow. Still haven't managed that heel-toe business yet, but it's not something I'm worried about since I don't go to the track and don't need to take corners doing a million miles an hour.

Are you double clutching slower than the guy in the video? He probably has a lot more experience than most people on this site.

I don't believe so, it just feels like a lot more thought is going into it than should be necessary, contributing to a feeling of slowness.

Nah.....most modern big rigs don't need to double-clutch. In fact, it's not even possible on some of the newer rigs.

Watch the video below. You can skip to 2:40 for the part about the transmission:

Here's another video of a big rig with an Eaton Fuller. Notice that the driver doesn't even use the clutch after he starts moving.

My head just exploded. Was that little toggle switch he kept switching back and forth the manual overdrive thingy?

The switch is for the exhaust brake (aka jake brake).

The pattern?

I did notice that the right stick seemed to be used without operating the clutch, while the left one seemed to have clutch movement.

It looks to me like the right gear shifter controls the "sub gears" (for lack of a better term) of the left gear shifter. Every time he shifted the left one, he started the right one back at the beginning. I could be wrong, but that's what it looks like.
