Re: Who here shoots? (Gun related)
So I bought a S&W Shield 9mm yesterday. Put 120 rounds through it yesterday with good results, and once I get a good holster for it, it will be by main carry gun.
Pics later - can't access photobucket at work and don't feel like posting from phone.
Here's a random picture of it from the net, for now.

Ordered a Theis holster for it (nothing to do with mtheis). I have a Theis holster for my PPX and love it. Kydex retention with horsehide backing. IWB tuckable.
Theis makes them to order, so mine is about two weeks out. Can't wait to get it.

Nice! Did you end up selling the Mosin?AHTOXA wrote:So I bought a S&W Shield 9mm yesterday. Put 120 rounds through it yesterday with good results, and once I get a good holster for it, it will be by main carry gun.

I ordered 200 rounds of 9mm last night. I don't own a firearm chambered in 9mm . I will eventually, though.

No, I still have the Mosin. I'll probably just keep it for now.

Our governor just signed a bill into law lifting Michigan's ban on short-barreled rifles and shotguns . Michigan has finally joined the other 40-something states that don't have stupid anti-SBR/S laws.
It still sucks that you have to pay a $200 ransom to the ATF and wait a year for them to approve , but at least we have the option now.

To me, the $200 and a year wait aren't really worth it. The SBR or SBS to me, has no redeeming qualities. They don't fit into what I like in guns and what I'd use them for.

Re: Who here shoots? (Gun related)
Apparently the ATF is stopping further imports of steel-core surplus 5.45x39 (7n6) ammunition. Apparently it's classified as 'armor piercing' by the ATF, but only armor piercing pistol ammo is not okay for import. For the longest time there weren't any factory-built 5.45 pistols being sold, but some dumbass finally did it (despite several warnings from the gun community) and the ATF seems to have caught on. I hear we'll still be able to get Wolf, Golden Tiger, etc, but the cheap and high-quality 7n6 surplus is shut off for now.
This is all pretty new, so I guess we'll see what happens.

Does that apply to 7.62.54R? IIt's also steel core and could be considered AP.

Re: Who here shoots? (Gun related)
As far as I know, there's no manufacturer making a pistol in x54R, so it should be good. ATF only hates steel cored pistol ammo. Like most other gun laws, it doesn't make much sense. Foreign made M855 ammo (steel-core 5.56mm NATO ammo) is still allowed to be imported despite several 5.56 pistols being in existence.AHTOXA wrote:Does that apply to 7.62.54R? I honestly haven't done tons of research on the subject, just parroting what's on a bunch of gun sites at the moment.

Re: Who here shoots? (Gun related)
Pistol is the key word - I missed that in your first post.
Speaking of pistols. I love carrying my 9mm Shield in a Tommy Theis inside the wasteband holster. Phenomenally ccomfy. I can go all day and do all kinds of activities with regular clothing and there are no concealment issues or comfort issues. Awesome.

I've been plugging away at it slowly but surely. As of now, it's a complete functional lower ready to receive an upper.noob5,000,000 wrote:I received my AR-15 stripped lower receiver a couple days ago

Re: Who here shoots? (Gun related)
I went shooting with my cousin tonight. A guy in the lane next to us had a Desert Eagle in .44 magnum, it was pretty intense. The concussion could still be felt while standing 5 feet behind it.
I've also decided to load the Taurus with different ammo when it rides on the nightstand. The 357 Magnum 125gn soft point loads that I keep in it now have a massive muzzle flash that would totally destroy my night vision if I had to fire in the dark. For now I'll switch to 38 Special 158gn lead round nose until I get something actually designed for personal defense. PD loads usually have a flash suppressant in the powder, not to mention a better bullet.
