1974 Alfa Vs. Prius
Had a little fun today. Came up next to a silver Prius on the perpendicular main street today and decided to mess with him a little bit (maybe try to blow away the cloud of smug surrounding him). I usually bring it up to 3500 so I brought it up to 5k or 5.5k then shifted to second, again 5k then stoplight . Then there was an SUV in front of me so no more fun.
This is also only my second day driving stick!

Not a good idea to start street racing.
I'm pretty sure the Prius driver counted a mental win for himself based on his MPG reading. "Another old-fashioned gasser down!"

Im waiting to pull up next to a Prius driver with his window down and ask what his mileage reading is, then blow him out of the water with my own. I can get 33mpg on back roads if I feel like it. Take that worlds more absurd car driver!

Sucks for me because my current situation is filled with short highway drives that my car never fully warms up for. 24mpg

Your right, but I hate Prius's and just felt like screwing with him.*blauenlanze wrote:Not a good idea to start street racing.

I want to put a sticker in the back window that says:
"13 MPG and damn proud!"
*another one was driving me up the wall on the same trip.

Re: 1974 Alfa Vs. Prius
Let me put it this way.
I wasn't going full on race, just accelerating a little faster than usual and dragging out the shifts. Then letting up at 35.
Still was fun though .

Gas won't be this cheap forever come next summer, or when the economy swings up, gas'll do the same.permabanned wrote:ok cool story you raced a prius that didnt even know you were racing.

Yeah I actually looked at the Prius when I was shopping this summer
Decided against it because it's mostly me and one passenger at the most, so I can get similar mileage in the Mini with a little more fun. I'm getting about ~6.9L/100km in mixed winter driving. It was 8.9L/100km when I was learning--parking lot crawling, stalling, and over-revving. "Spirited" driving gets me about 7.6L/100km.
