But maybe this will slow down lithium demand a bit. While many countries, states and cities want to ban the sales of new ICE vehicles, Wyoming wants to ban the sale of EVs. In fact, it wants to ban them by 2035. The sponsors of the legislation say the oil and gas industry has created countless jobs and generated revenue for the state. And they say that Wyoming doesn’t have enough of a charging infrastructure. Wyoming is the 8th largest oil producer in the U.S.

And the state absolutely should not provide any charging infrastructure, nor allow the feds to provide it. Put a heavy tax on mobile charging services like SparkCharge.

EV owners drive less than ICE owners. A new study from iSeeCars says the average 3-year old EV is driven 9,059 miles a year, compared to 12,758 miles for an ICE vehicle. That’s almost a third less. Not surprisingly, Teslas are driven the most, probably because they have longer range and a reliable Supercharger network that reduces range anxiety. If you take Tesla out, then the average drops to just 6,719 miles. The Porsche Taycan is the least driven EV at less than 5,000 miles per year. iSeeCars says EVs with higher ranges are used more but adding range will significantly increase prices at today’s battery costs.

"Such advisors handled a variety of issues, including range complaints. But last summer, Tesla created the Las Vegas “Diversion Team” to handle only range cases, according to the people familiar with the matter.

The office atmosphere at times resembled that of a telemarketing boiler room. A supervisor had purchased the metallophone – a xylophone with metal keys – that employees struck to celebrate appointment cancellations, according to the people familiar with the office’s operations."

"Tesla also updated its phone app so that any customer who complained about range could no longer book service appointments, one of the sources said. Instead, they could request that someone from Tesla contact them. It often took several days before owners were contacted because of the large backlog of range complaints, the source said."

"Tesla years ago began exaggerating its vehicles’ potential driving distance – by rigging their range-estimating software. The company decided about a decade ago, for marketing purposes, to write algorithms for its range meter that would show drivers “rosy” projections for the distance it could travel on a full battery, according to a person familiar with an early design of the software for its in-dash readouts.

Then, when the battery fell below 50% of its maximum charge, the algorithm would show drivers more realistic projections for their remaining driving range, this person said. To prevent drivers from getting stranded as their predicted range started declining more quickly, Teslas were designed with a “safety buffer,” allowing about 15 miles (24 km) of additional range even after the dash readout showed an empty battery, the source said.

The directive to present the optimistic range estimates came from Tesla Chief Executive Elon Musk, this person said.

“Elon wanted to show good range numbers when fully charged,” the person said, adding: “When you buy a car off the lot seeing 350-mile, 400-mile range, it makes you feel good.”"

EV CHARGER GENERATES ENERGY BY BURNING WOOD -Autoline Daily
Speaking of EV chargers, here’s a new one that generates electricity by burning wood. A company called Air Burners teamed up with Rolls-Royce and Volvo Construction Equipment to launch the BioCharger, which converts the residual heat energy from burning vegetative waste into electric energy and stores it in a 450-kWh battery unit. Air Burners says it can generate enough electricity every day to power 3-6 machines and by using air curtain technology it can reduce the amount of harmful particulates that are released into the air.

"Automakers want to dump AM radio from their electric cars because it’s too expensive to shield AM from all the electromagnetic interference generated by the electric motors and the inverter. But Joanna McLellan, who is an expert in EMI, or electromagnetic interference, says the automakers don’t know what they’re doing. She says that motors and inverters can be designed to minimize EMI fairly cheaply. And she says the reason they don’t know what they’re doing, because engineering schools don’t know how to teach it.

“That’s really difficult because as far as the educators are concerned, I’m a barbarian. 
I am saying that their baby is ugly, that the way that they teach circuit theory is teaching people how to fail, because of the way that they say that there’s this omnipotent ground out there. It works great at DC, but it doesn’t work above 100 kilohertz, and that is what has caused the black magic to occur.”

DODGE CHARGER OFFERS CHOICE: BEV OR ICE Autoline Daily
We’ve got the latest info on the electric Dodge Charger, and there’s a ton to talk about. First off, it’s not just going to be electric. The new Charger is built on the Stella Large platform, which can handle different powertrains. So the choice is yours: pure electric, or plenty of piston power. The ICE side of the house delivers a 550-horsepower high output version of the 3.0L Twin Turbo inline 6-cylinder Hurricane engine, as well as a 420-horsepower version. But the ICE engines are not available until early next year. The electric versions start production this summer. All of them come standard with all wheel drive, though the front axle can be disconnected when not needed for longer driving range. They feature a 400v architecture, a nickel-cobalt-aluminum 100.5 kWh battery pack with prismatic cells, and a peak 550 kW discharge rate. At the top of the line-up is the 670 horsepower Daytona version that will run 0-60 miles an hour in 3.3 seconds. Add a Scat Pack to it and it will do the quarter mile in 11.5 seconds. There’s a Daytona R/T version that comes with 496 horsepower, but Dodge didn’t release any pricing yet. Other details include massive 16-inch, 6-piston Brembo brakes up front, and 4-piston calipers in the rear. A staggered tire and wheel combo include Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar 3s, with 305’s up front and 325’s in the rear. Dodge promises the electric chargers will have Hellcat sound levels, thanks to what it calls the Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust.
