picked up a green EJ8 1998 Honda Civic EX Coupe today, will have pictures up...as soon as i remember.

Breakdown:
Engine: D16Y8 = SOHC 1.6l 4 cyl w/VTEC (127hp @ 6600, 107 ft-lbs @ 5500) Mileage: 198xxx (5/5)

Transmission: 5 speed manual (maf*ckas!) (5/5)

Interior: normal honda interior. for having almost 200000 on it im amazed the entire interior doesnt have a single rip, cigarette burn or even worn spots. bland tan color though :-\ (4/5)

Exterior: alot of scratches in the paint, but no chipping, existing paint is still very shiny with no fade. the front lip of the hood (closest to your front license plate) looks almost like the previous owner rear-ended a large truck and did almost no damage except bending in the front lip of the hood. this requires one person to hold the hood latch open while another person actually opens the hood, otherwise it won't open. (2/5) (i would care more about this...but i don't have to look at it when im driving it!)

The Good: i drove it about 70 miles to get it back to my house from the dealer (you have to travel far to find a good deal in this day and age) and the motor pulled strong, loves popping VTEC  and handles beautifully. for having almost 200k miles it runs like a goddamn swiss watch. not a tick, a pop, a leak or anything wrong mechanically with the powertrain. the car feels very basic, but has alot of features built in. cruise control, sunroof, power everything etc. so far i love this car. paid $2500 and thats WITH the dealer replacing the airbag (more on this in the next paragraph)

The Bad: Ah well heres where it gets interesting. the car was in an "accident" and the airbag was deployed. the dealer wouldn't say, but i believe the accident that caused the airbag to deploy and the hood to get crimped are one and the same. i believe the front left wheel is wobbling slightly, as when my speed increases, as does a thumping sound. its been raining out all day so i haven't even had time to get under there and poke around at all. it could be badly tightened tires or the entire goddamn front controls might need to be replaced for all i know. more info on this later as well.

FOSE: its a coupe, and the interior doesn't feel that pleasurable against bare skin...(1/5)

overall i think it was a pretty good buy...what do you guys think?

That thumping thing is very concerning. Normally I would implicate a wheel bearing or hub, but having just come from a dealer I would expect them to have fixed such a cheap easy issue (same with a bent wheel) so they could get a lot more for the car. I hope I'm wrong about the dealer and it is just a bearing/hub or bent wheel.

If you have a spare tire you can easily find out if the wheel is at fault.

That's almost my car! Except for the coupe versus sedan... and the manual   .

I think you got a decent price on it, though I would be concerned as well about the wheel problem. Did they give you/have a maintenance history for the vehicle? And I'm assuming you got a carfax before you bought it?

i should've been more clear as to where i bought the car...it was a spic stealership. im not a racist man, but those spaniards tagged me as a gringo the second i walked onto the lot. even from a private party in fair condition the car is worth 2600 with the options it has, so all in all, i think i got a good deal out of it even if some things need replacing.

lol, so you got none of the normal information that you would have gotten at any other dealership, got it  And yeah, like I said, price is good, pending you finding out about what the deal is with that wheel.

dont worry, im probably not going to take any better care of this than i did my truck. maintenance-wise i will, but im still gonna be beating the piss out of this thing. i haven't gotten on it that hard yet though (as i don't want the wheel to fly the f*ck off)

oh and THC...that made my week

totally reminds me of my 94 civic ex coupe from 7-8 years ago, down to the bent wheel (try moving the wheel to the back) and having been in an accident. only real thing i think was slightly better on the 94 ex was the feel of the cloth on the seats. the 96-00 seats are probably more comfortable but i doubt they used as plush a covering as the 94 had. i also liked the dash setup and overall ergonomics better on my civic. i fit 7 people into that car on at least one occasion (barhopping in albany). car could be fun iff revved up too.
