RWD cars, cheap, list

Post by Leedeth »

OK I am looking to make a list that I can quickly use to search through online listings of cars ads. I'm tired of having to always try to think of every cars that's RWD and cheap. And I miss cars sometimes.

So I want to make a list so I can easily search and not miss any when I do.

List:

200SX
240SX
300ZX
Celica
Supra
Mustang
Camaro
Firebird

That's all I can think of, am I missing any?

200SX was actually used for two different chassis in two different markets. In North America, the 200SX was a B14 two-door Sentra, which was FWD and not RWD. IN Japan, 200sx was a different chassis and RWD.

Celica was RWD, it's the recent generations that are FWD.

I know camaro=firebird but people post their cars under different names, if they don't post camaro and firebird in the same post then i would miss some cars.

It says RWD on that page I don't see anything about FWD?

And guys I need the actual model name of the car, because that is what people post their cars under. I need to quickly see all potential cars that are on the market.

This is the FWD version- you'll want to avoid it.
Wikipedia wrote:In 1995, Nissan reintroduced the 200SX nameplate in North America to designate a two-door version of the Nissan Sentra (B14 chassis, a front wheel drive car), replacing the Sentra coupe (discontinued in 1994) and Nissan NX (discontinued in 1993). The 200SX came in base, SE, and sportier SE-R models. All shared their front-end appearance, front-drive chassis, dashboard, and many dimensions with the Nissan Sentra. Base and SE editions shared Sentra's twin-cam GA16DE engine 4-cylinder engine. The SE-R inherited the 140-horsepower 2.0 L SR20DE engine used in the previous 2-door Sentra SE-R. All three came with a 5-speed manual transmission or 4-speed automatic, and were equipped with dual airbags. Antilock brakes were optional in the SE and SE-R. The price, new: $15,269-17,549.

I assume leaving out the MX-5 and RX-7/8 series was intentional?

I assume a manual is also in the requirements?

Thunderbirds ('97 and earlier) were available with a manual. The Cougar platform-mate was not.

Early-model Lexus SC300's were available with manuals.

MR2?

There was a competitor to the Supra, 3000GT.

There are always BMW and Benz (And of course the front-engine Porsches, 924/928/944/968), but any truly cheap ones would likely be basket cases.

Pickups, vans, and SUV's not your style?

An obscure RWD manual is the pre-'03 Lincoln LS with the V6 engine only, but it is a premium fuel engine. Its platform-mate Jaguar S-type would not be cheap, and its other platform-mate new-style Thunderbird was automatic-only.

There was also the Lexus IS300. The early-model ones might be starting to come down some.

The Cadillac Catera was never available with a manual that I can find, but the follow-on CTS was from day 1. The early ones are depreciating fairly well.

Are you a fan of older Volvos?

Automatic-only, the Crown Vic/Grand Marquis/Town Car and 1996-and-earlier Caprice/Impala/Roadmaster are RWD and very budget-friendly.

No, that is why I am making this list, because I can't list them all off the top of my head immediately.

Yes manual is required.

Pickups and SUVs are cool, I just would like to have a car instead. If sometime good comes my way I'll still consider it, but cars get preference over pickup and SUV.

Not a fan of Volvos but I like that they're RWD.

It's easier if you remove "cheap" from the requirements, since that differs from one person to the next. Also, just how old are you willing to go? If you knock it back to 1985 and earlier, almost everything was RWD.

Most "roadster"-style cars are RWD. Pontiac Solstice, Saturn Sky, Mazda Miata, Honda S2000, etc.

My 1980 Buick Lesabre is RWD, though I don't know if it was available with a manual transmission. I've sometimes considered fitting it with one.

I wouldn't mind seeing a compiled list of RWD cars, sorted by the last year they were availabe in RWD and secondarily by size or price or something.

A cheap older car can get pretty expensive in repairs. Don't even think about getting an old pos if you don't plan on turning some wrenches.
