You have used that simile before.AHTOXA wrote:Agreed with cow.

As for the original question: No, I do not have trouble. The rubber isnt nearly as sticky in the cold, but thats the nature of the compound. Its not like I push the limit during my commute anyway.

THC, I want to thank you for being my voice of reason today (yesterday). This morning, when I read your reply, I was upset at your reply, but it was really that I was being called out for my irrational thoughts and desires (well, one of them at least) and those desires were being attacked (which is good). Thank you and I'm glad you didn't hesitate telling me what was wrong with my thinking. Now I can use my tax refund on more important things, instead of wasting them. The Michelins on the steelies actually handle fairly well with the PSI pumped up some. I've gotta admit though, this is the first car that really has made me enjoy driving and actually connect with the car. I'd like to have a yard full of Imprezas or at least 2 or 3. Even the Maxima didn't come closetheholycow wrote:Yes, you are crazy to swap two sets of all-seasons. The only circumstance I can think of where that would be worthwhile is when you own all 8 tires already and are saving the unworn tires for winter while driving bald ones in the summer.
I would, without a doubt, use winter tires for the second set and drive on those nice Michelins for 3 seasons. Add some pressure to compensate for any excessive flexibility in the passenger-spec Michelins and see how fast you can wear them out so you'll have an excuse to buy those summer tires.

About 220 euros for fixing the rental snow scooter. I guess I won't be buying the tax-free bottle of Laphroaig. Also, frostbites in face.

Does the rental place cover the repairs, or was the damage your fault??

The rental snowmobiles are of course insured - you pay some 170 NOK per day for the insurance - but there's 3000 NOK (about $520) deductible. Since the windshield cost less than that, I had to pay for it. I wouldn't say it was entirely my fault - when I parked the scooter, I had no idea that within minutes we would get several strong gusts of wind from behind, one of which would rip off my windshield - but then again I could have chosen a bit more sheltered place instead of stopping just in front of the glacier. Anyway, I'm leaving Svalbard the day after tomorrow, so I reckoned that paying would be the easiest solution. It wasn't that much, after all, and I'm going to get 300 euros from the university after I return some documents next week. I could actually buy that whiskey after all without digging to my savings...potownrob wrote:Does the rental place cover the repairs, or was the damage your fault??
However, the good thing is that I did not break the sledge even though we had 200 liters of gasoline on it and I wasn't driving that gently over the glacier.

I went to clear my jailbroken iphone before I sell it and it freaking wouldn't boot on me. Apple logo just stays on and nothing happens. Now I have to restore it and I can only restore using 5.1 iOS. So I lost the jailbreak. I wonder if that's gonna cost me in less retail value since you can't jailbreak 5.1 just yet.

Re: Misc Thread VI: Return of the Threadi
that sucks, but i would think you can get similar for the stock phone i got an iphone 4s a couple weeks ago for my Verizon NE2 upgrade. Other than the smaller screen and a few interface differences, i like it better than my old Android phones (Droid, Droid X, Droid Incredible, Droid 3). Damn Droids always got slow once I had a few (bad) apps installed. I had a used iPhone 4 last fall (stopped using after home button stopped working right) so it wasn't hard to get used to iOS again.AHTOXA wrote:I went to clear my jailbroken iphone before I sell it and it freaking wouldn't boot on me. I can't imagine it'll cost you. Most people don't know about or have no interest in jailbreaking.AHTOXA wrote:I went to clear my jailbroken iphone before I sell it and it freaking wouldn't boot on me. My car wasn't boosting as much as it is supposed to on Cobb Stage 2, so I updated the firmware and maps on my Cobb AccessPORT last night. The previous owner hadn't updated it in a while, so it was running a pretty old version. After I did that, I reflashed my car's ECU with the newer version of 93 Octane Stage 2 (a couple minor changes) and my car is noticeably faster and is boosting at the correct levels. Cheapest mod ever at $0 and very noticeable improvement on the butt dyno.

Tony,
I don't remember if you were on AT&T or Verizon, but AT&T just announced that Apple would start legally unlocking out-of-contract iphones for use on other carriers.
I have an iPhone 4 that I accidentally loaded up to 5.0 with the latest baseband and all I have to do is call them up and provide my phone's ID nubmer and then do a quick sync. Supposed to be relatively painless!

Well, I'm going to try to sell it with 5.1 loaded. I got it up and running last night so at least it works well now.
