You need a better car charger, and the amount of juice needed to charge a phone won't drain your battery enough to bother running the car.

Walmart has a nice one, you hardwire it and it's got two 12v outlets as well as two 2.1 amp USB ports (but max 3.1 amp total, so you won't charge two 2.1 amp devices simultaneously).

It's just two wires and you can use a fuse tap to avoid having to cut anything, but if that's still too scary you could put a 12v plug on the end and plug it into your existing 12v outlet. It's still inexpensive and very effective.

Or, he could be a portable power pack. Charge that up when you're driving around, because most likely the car will be driven at least once a day. I'm sure you can get a nice one for less than $50. You'd pay that much in campsite fees.

You can also buy a solar charger. Those are cheap and while they might not have enough juice to charge a laptop, they can charge a cellphone just fine.

I need a new headlamp. I recently destroyed my old and trusty Princeton Tec Eos. Looking at picking up a Zerbalight along with some Eneloops to run in it. From a blazing 280 lumens down to 0.17 lumens.

Long and short of it is, got laid off when they shut down the base of my old job. moved west for school and family. Currently working and going to school. And planning a blast through the Rockies in my FoST.
