The MPG thread
I figure since we have a mileage thread, we can have a thread to post our most recent MPG and what conditions we were driving to achieve it. Yesterday I filled up and got
28.66 mpg
35% highway
65% city
Tried to be gentle on the throttle and shift at low RPM. By the end of the tank I was more liberal with the throttle application and did a few near-redline runs here and there.

Re: The MPG thread
Buick: 21.65MPG. Winter tires, idling to warm up, cold weather, alternator constantly charging a dead battery while running all electrical accessories; also, me flogging it pretty hard. I just haven't been feeling patient. This is a far cry from the 27-29 I get when I'm patient and it's summer.
GMC: 17.7MPG. As with the Buick, idling to warm up, cold weather, accessories. This is really only 10-15% less than I might expect under better conditions.

Re: The MPG thread
I think I used to get about 22mpg. That was about 95% highway driving. (but it was very hilly).
Now I'm pretty much 100% city and I'm not the most conservative driver. I'll have to keep track next time I fill up and report back.
I'm also going to change my spark plugs this week so I'll have to see if that gives me back some of my fuel economy.

Re: The MPG thread
I just calculated the fuel economy on my A5 for the second time since I've had it. It got 28 mpg with about 80% highway driving. That was pretty surprising considering that I normally cruise at 75 mph and I made no attempt to avoid boost or drive gently. I'm not too concerned with getting maximum fuel economy out of the car, so it does see plenty of boost around town and on the highway.
I'll have to see what kind of fuel economy I can get out of the car if I'm actually trying. Maybe this summer I'll take a trip and see if I can be disciplined enough to stay out of the boost. I'm guessing the car will probably see mid-30s on the highway.

I get ~17~18 MPG consistently in my Acura, driving slightly more aggressive than a normal person, 99% in the city.

Re: The MPG thread
Last tank in my soul gave me 30.1, if I remember correctly. This was 70% highway, 30% city. In the city I drove it as usual, never really trying to concerve fuel. I'm also breaking the motor in still, so it's not getting it's optimal MPG. I fully expect to see 29-30 in combined average driving once the motor is broken in and has loosened up a little. Mid 30's on the highway with no sweat.

I don't recall being part of any empire in recent history. We use the SI system like all modern and civilized nations.RITmusic2k wrote:You guys use imperial gallons though, yes?
Also, I used US gallons for the conversion in Google.

Time to update your sig. Congrats on the Soul. I always liked the funky styling of those things.

Re: The MPG thread
I get an average of 32-35mpg in the winter and about 37-40 in the summer. Last fill up with good gas from Mass I got about 39 with a lot of backroad driving. It was a lot of painful up hill driving so I think its par for a 21 year old car.

Re: The MPG thread
in the summer its around 34, in winter 32, recently 30, as i'm doing more city driving vs lots of highway driving.

Re: The MPG thread
I've had my Forte, 2.0l, up to 37 on the freeway going 80 mph with my brother and his two kids in tow. I think you'll probably pull high 30s, low 40s. I'm not sure how the aerodynamics will work against you though.AHTOXA wrote:Last tank in my soul gave me 30.1, if I remember correctly. This was 70% highway, 30% city. Last tank was 27, but that's with winter gas and general ick. During the summer I pull around 29, and can't seem to break 30 consistently - but I drive about 90% in the 'burbs and 10% freeway.
My signature is my rolling average, and that's been calculated on fuelly.com over about 5,000 miles.
