What Were Your Past Cell Phones
I got bored and I thought this would be a fun thread.
First, christmas present for I think 2007. LG VX4500, died after being dropped on the floor of an ice cream shop.
Second, replacement for previous phone being dropped on said floor, Samsung SCH-A870. This thing was a bloody tank, I don't even know how many times I dropped it. It still works, I just traded up. God I hated it.
Third, LG Voyager/VX10000, traded up from the Samsung because I wanted something different. Absolutely terrible resistive touchscreen, slow internet, terrible speakers (and it was advertised as a multimedia phone!), and it sat like a brick in my pocket. After being fed up by the terrible touchscreen, I traded down (sort of) to a traditional blackberry.
Fourth was my absolutely abominable Blackberry 8830 World Edition. Coincidentally it was also the phone that I owned the longest. It was an okay phone for a time, and then I updated it to OS 4.5. As I like to say, it became like molasses in the arctic. At a certain point it became so slow that it couldn't even run the applications built into the phone and missing phone calls. That's when it met the shitcan. It was also advertised as being a 3G phone, but it never presented that kind of speed through tethering, and even if it did have 3G, the processor would've been too slow to render it quickly.
Fifth, my current Motorola Droid 1. This is hands down the BEST phone I have ever owned. This one actually has a 550MHz processor, which is over twice as fast as the processor in the Blackberry (235MHz). The Android OS is the best of all of the ones I've used, especially when I updated it from 2.1 to 2.2, the phone actually became faster. Being basically a handheld computer, it slowed down a little bit over time, no problem, a little google searching and a cache cleaner later, it's like having a brand new phone all over again. Maybe when my contract expires in July of 2012 I'll pick up a new phone, but I doubt this one is going to displease me anytime soon. Not to mention it's a Motorola, which are virtually indestructible.

Re: What Were Your Past Cell Phones
1st - Audiovox CDM 8900
I got this one in 8th grade. Had to give it up to my dad in freshman year because we moved and he needed a cell phone for work
2nd - Samsung t509
My 2nd phone. I freaking loved this phone. I had wanted it so badly after seeing my friend's sister with one of these. It was awesome. Until I forgot it in my pocket one day and mom did laundry.
3rd - Motorola RAZR (with an insatiable urge to send data to Italy)
I got this one on Devon (Chicagoans will sure know what that is) after my t509 broke. It wasn't bad actually. I had hated the Razr before this because stupid bitches bought them. It performed admirably. Though it was an Italian model I think (all the settings were in Italian at first and the demo video was Italian) and it sent 3 cent data packages to Italy every now and then. In bunches of 12. After nearly 2 years of serious abuse (I took a lighter to the screen once. Worked fine after that), it broke somehow.
4th - Samsung something or other (can't remember the model)
Red clamshell phone. No camera. Had to use it as a stopgap for a few months until I could get a new phone after my Razr broke.
5th - Pantech Slate
Read all about it here! :
viewtopic.php?f=31&t=12947
6th - HTC G2
I just got this not even a week ago so I can't really say how it is yet. Initial impressions are good. This thing is super packed with features. My first smartphone, and what a way into the segment.

Re: What Were Your Past Cell Phones
My first:Motorola V557, I kind of wish I still had it. Everything I needed, nothing I didn't, and it operated much more smoothly than my current one. I got it at the end of 9th grade, and it lasted me till almost the end of 11th grade.
Pantech Duo, it was cool, but I could have lived without all the features. I ended up being an idiot and breaking it. Only lasted about a year.
Current: Samsung SGH-A707, handed down from my dad after I broke the Pantech. It has everything I need, but it's nothing special.

Re: What Were Your Past Cell Phones
Got my dad's old Ericsson GA318 in winter 1997. I was the first kid in our school with a cell phone.
In autumn 1998 I bought the Nokia 6110 I'm using at the moment. Most parts have been replaced at least once, but the main circuit board is still original.
My ex wanted me to change the service provider in 2008, so I needed a dual band (GSM 900/1800) phone. I took my dad's old Nokia 6210.
Once it started to show signs of breaking up in late 2008 due to mishandling - I threw it at things while fighting with my ex - I bought a second-hand Nokia 6310i, the ultimate 6000-series model. It was sadly stolen last fall so I switched back to the old 6110 because I had again changed the operator and no longer needed a dual-band phone.
I really like the old phone but it's increasingly difficult to find good batteries. The 6310i had an original Nokia li-ion battery that lasted for a week or so, but since I lost it, I've bought two non-OEM batteries that both are good for two freaking days as long as I don't touch the phone. I hope that one day I'll come across a good original battery...
I've also owned, but not used, a Nokia 6310, so I've owned all classic 6000-series phones. I also have another 6310i, my dad's old phone, but it has some issues so I don't use it.

Re: What Were Your Past Cell Phones
First was a Nokia 5160i. I had it for 3 years and it was amazing.
Then I got a Nokia 3560.
I only had it for about 8 months because I switched to Verizon (the first 2 were with the original AT&T Wireless before it became singular with Cingular) and got this:
Audiovox CDM-8910. I liked it because it had a camera but it wasn't so good. Build quality wasn't the best especially compared to my previous Nokias. Did weird things like turn off and on randomly.
Then I got my first PDA, a Samsung SCH-i730 with Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition:
After that one, I upgraded to its successor, the SCH-i760 with Windows Mobile 6.1.
And now I have a Palm Pixi Plus.
I have also had other cell phones that I didn't list because they weren't my "main device" but were like prepaid phones or whatnot that I had purchased to use on kayaking trips, etc.

Re: What Were Your Past Cell Phones
Holy crap, you people change cell phones more often than I change engine oil.
First phone: Can't find a photo and don't know the model. It was Verizon-branded phone actually manufactured by Qualcomm. It was slightly smaller than a common Nokia back in the late 1990s or early 2000s when I got it, and had a little cover over the keys that flipped down when I was going to talk so as to redirect my voice to the microphone.
Second: Motorola V60
Kept it a few years until the battery failed and I was eligible for a free upgrade.
Third: Motorola V710
Kept it until I switched carriers.
Fourth (and current): Samsung M500
Replaced the battery with one from eBay and it's about time for another one. Other than that it keeps on truckin'. Drop it, stick it in my jeans pocket and lean on stuff or lift something heavy while bracing it against my lap, whatever, this thing doesn't care.
Sometimes I get a stupid phone software update from Sprint that freezes the phone. I think it's actually a ruse to convince me to get a new phone so I'll be in contract again. No thanks, at least not until they offer something that I want.

Those Motorola V60s are good phones. I almost got one instead of the 3560 but I opted for the color screen over the "new and cool at the time" flip phone style.

Sorry Cosmin, I had to steal your photo. My Google search kept giving my the MyTouch 3g since that was it's old name . I had a flip phone, but I can't remember what brand it was. Oh well.

I'll post when I get home. I used to work for a wireless carrier for years and I have owned and used probably over 30 phones or more. I wonder how many I will be able to remember.

Re: What Were Your Past Cell Phones
Those bag phones were still available up to about 5 years ago. I equipped two company vehicles with them, mounted as old-style car phones. I kept the bags and batteries which were great for projects...I made one into a carry case for my GPS, satellite radio, etc. I could switch vehicles without ever turning off my toys.

Dad used to have those "bag-phones" in the late 80s and early 90s. He also installed an external antenna to his cabin with the captain's but without the shipping company's permission. Later someone from the company visited the ship and wondered what the heck it was :D
