1st synchro gets used every time you shift into 1st before the clutch spins down, like a stop sign at an empty intersection.

Not that it has anything to do with clutchless shifting, but I usually drop mine into 1st if I'm trying to park in my driveway. It's fairly shallow and I have to worry about blasting into my mom's car (it's a 3 car driveway - lengthwise). I find it's easier to control and avoid a stall if I'm in first and can creep forward a little bit. I only go in at about 10 mph and then ease the car in the driveway.

tried this a few days ago. got a good one on my third try (and did several perfect 5-4's, interestingly enough), but figured they were pretty useless and went back to using the clutch.
