What does a clutch smell like?

Post by JusCruzin »

Someone mentioned in another thread that burnt clutch is like nothing you've ever smelled before. So, what does it smell like? Every time I drive past some place where there is some acrid odor in the air, I get paranoid that it's my clutch.

It smells similar to brakes. They are pretty much composed of the same material. I've smelled clutch at an autocross event. It's pretty stank and you can notice it. I have a rubbery smell coming from my hood, but it's my A/C belt. It's badly worn.

It smells like overheated brakes, if you ever smelled that. The material is similar.

To get a rough estimate, find a long empty road, Get up to 70, brake hard, stop, repeat a few times, then get out and smell your brakes. Shouldn't be too hard to find the smell.

Meh, won't do more than a negligible amount of damage/wear to your brakes.
