FORWARD TO REVERSE 180

Okay, I know I can get the car to come half circle. Driving forward, scandinavian flick, slight handbrake, now we're moving in reverse. Question is: how do I shift into reverse, while moving backwards, without grinding the gear (aside from the rev match whose target I'd be clueless about). I don't have the shift pattern nor the type of tranny that would allow for quick problem free injection. Thoughts.

NOW CONVERSELY:

Also, when trying to 180 from reverse, the brake pedal acts as the disrupter, much like the handbrake does when moving forward, correct?
MEANING: TO SPIN THE CAR MOVING IN DIRECTION (---->) WITH POLES (F, FRONT), (R, REAR), the only way to disrupt the natural motion of the car in addition to the scandinavian flick is the brake pedal, right, because the handbreak would just be counterproductive, no?
[F---R] ------> [R----F] ----->

Lock the drive wheels if possible. Since they won't be moving, you don't have to rev-match.

Interesting idea. ABS prevents it. Like the thinking though!

I know this from too many reverse 180 donuts in the snow

Planning on getting into the Presidential Chauffeur business?

It might be easier to practice in the other direction. Start in reverse, donut 180 into forward, rev-match, shift, and go.

i don't see him addressing the grinding issue. i was rolling down my driveway once, in reverse, and when I tried to put it into reverse while rolling backwards it grinded. should've seen my dad's face. lol. man i miss him.

anyway. thoughts? can this be done without grinding? or what?

Reverse to forward is very easy. Go fast in reverse, cut the wheel, enjoy slide as front flies around, straighten out.

okay. i can do both. seems like i'm discombobulated tonight. this is what i can do:

in gear forward, 180, to rolling neutral reverse.
in gear reverse, 180, to in gear forward.

this is what i want to do:

in gear foward, 180, to in gear reverse.

i think i should note to those who don't know. you don't want to the car to be in forward gear and moving backwards or vice versa. this is how the engine turns backwards supposedly.

I'm thinking you might just have to do forward-to-rolling-neutral-reverse and then wait, clutch in, for the layshaft to stop. Then engage and accelerate rearward. If you perform the entire turn with the clutch floored, that should give it a few seconds to spin down as you compose yourself. Might just be a matter of patience.

i can't believe i'm about to ask this: i thought the gear collar was "connected" to the rear wheels.

meaning i'd still have to revmatch to get the car in gear?

Open your electronics panel, pull the ABS relay, flip the bird to those safety conscious pansies who decided you needed something to always be on that totally destroys the fun potential when on a track or a skid pad.

I was thinking about this the other day, and think you'd just have to separate the shifting from the steering. Go to neutral before you begin the maneuver and don't leave neutral until you have completed the maneuver.
