Acceleration problems

Synchros shot? Weird noises while shifting? Not sure what needs to be replaced?

Acceleration problems

Post by Helios »

Lately Ive been having acceleration problems, car is an 03 jetta 1.8t. low rpm power is almost non existent from 1k rpm up 2200 rpm. And after shifting into 2nd the car hesitates to accelerate. I also have to rev the car a little more from a standstill to get it going at a reasonable speed. Now I thought that it could be the clutch, but it was replaced 2k miles ago and I haven't launched it hard or rode it. And the clutch isn't slipping. I thought it could of been a coilpack, but it isn't.
So what Im saying is the car overall is sluggish/hesitates when i press on the gas. And if it is the clutch going what could possibly be the cause because I thought Ive been good to it.
Thanks

Are you up-to-date on schedule maintenance?

If so, and there's no check engine light...check fuel pressure (could be a failing fuel pump) and check for a broken, clogged up catalytic converter.

does it feel like it gets worse when you go higher up in the rpm range? if so it could be a problem with the engine breathing i would think. more air tries to get through, less air actually gets through.

On the coil pack issue, have you had the recall done on your car for those yet?

It may also be your turbocharger, either not letting the motor exhaust properly or not delivering enough air on the front end.

Yea Ive done the Coil pack recall. I mentioned that I had some acceleration problems but the tech said it drove fine. But he probably didn't even drive it that much. So are you saying it could be a boost leak? Another thing that I forgot to mention is that its much worse in hot weather (it was 93F today.) Oh and the car only has 56xxx miles on it.

From 1k-3k there's very little torque after 3k there's power but it doesn't seem as good as it used to be. I checked the air filter and it looked clean. There is no CEL either. I guess Im just gonna have to take it to the dealer.

have you checked the max boost in your car compared to what the factory max boost is? boost leak could be a definite problem.

I always go after the plug wires first, but I guess it wouldn't hurt to change the acceleration wires too. Don't forget the deceleration ones too.

Perhaps the Prius braking failure debacle (whatever happened to that one?) was because of deceleration wire failure...it was brake-by-wire, right?

So, did the timing belt jump a tooth or what?

Is there an extra injector for cold and/or acceleration enrichment? Seams tummy they played that game at VW way back when. Probably just done with mirrors now.

The f**k are acceleration wires, and how do you adjust them?
Two pedals, two feet, too easy.
