Let's talk A/C condensers

Synchros shot? Weird noises while shifting? Not sure what needs to be replaced?

Let's talk A/C condensers

Post by noob5,000,000 »

So I've decided that I want to keep A/C in my FC, since it gets really hot around here in the summer months. However, the stock A/C condenser sits right in the main opening to the engine bay, right in front of the radiator. Although I'm sure it doesn't make much of a difference to airflow in the real world (it did come like that from the factory, after all), I'd still be more comfortable having less stuff in the way.

I really don't have a particular question to ask at the moment, so here's a bunch of random thoughts spit out:
- I'm assuming they've found a way to make A/C condensers smaller over the last 24 years (the FC's is huge...), I've thought about doing some parts swapping from another car that comes with a smaller condenser.
- Is condenser size proportional to cooling performance? I'm willing to give up some cooling, I don't need it to be 'ice cold', just enough to take the edge off when I get in the car after being parked in the sun for hours.
- If I change the condenser size, will it make the rest of the system go crazy and fail (is that even possible?).

TLDR: have A/C condensers gotten any smaller? if so, can I adapt a different one to my car?

My truck's A/C condenser is the same width and height as its radiator, though I think it's less thick.

That thing used R-12 I assume. Upgrade to the more efficient R-134a and get a smaller thinger. Or relocate it.

Goddamn I didn't need to know that...

In all seriousness though, the unedited version of what he said.
That's if you can find one that'll work.

Or you know, you could quit being a bitch and have non-functional A/C and one window that won't open and still not complain, like me.

Cavalier had no A/C, truck has one but I know goddamn well it won't work. I never bother with A/C. I only ever bother with A/C in mom's car and very, very, very rarely in dad's truck. Mom's car is just a hotbox. Dad's truck only sees me using the A/C if it's been sitting all goddamn day.

It was for his mom. Evidently the session you had with his mom earlier that day really took a toll on her.

Black leather + lots of glass = greenhouse. I use the A/C on really damn hot days. Otherwise I park facing with the sun to keep it off my seat and roll the windows down
